Wax

I had my new truck washed and waxed today and as far as I'm concerned, there is NO PLACE in my town that can do a decent job. They had some 14 year old looking girl out there with a buffer and when I got it home, there was wax residue on almost all the black plastic. Door handles, bumper trim, grill insert, etc. I'm also fairly certain she didn't bother to do the roof.

I've never been very good about "staying within the lines" either. I have it done "professionally" for that very reason. Is there any kind of wax that won't stain my black plastic white if I accidentally hit it with the applicator?

One last thing... what's the best black plastic treatment to get? I've always used Armor All or Mother's Back To Black but I've heard bad things about both. I'd really like to keep my new truck looking nice.

Thanks - John

This is one of the reasons I use Sealants more than Carnuaba wax. Usually sealants do not stain plastic (NXT, Wolfgang, Poorboys, Four Star, etc). Hope this helps.

Hey I hear your pain buddy, if you pay good money to have it professionally done I'd expect a quality job too. It only takes a few minutes to tape off the trim before waxing it up, with a machine it's a must!

Do some searching and you'll find plenty of info on both questions, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of replies on this thread as well.

My .02 is that Meguiar's NXT wax would be good and for trim protecting my weapon of choice is 303 Aerospace Protectant. It's great stuff and has UV inhibitors that will slow down the aging of the crappy plastic trim on our trucks. You can find it at GI Joes, Camping World, lots of RV places carry it too. Or you can order it online too.

Good Luck buddy!

get some blue painters tape, spend 10 minutes taping the truck off, then do it yourself ..

NXT will stain the trim, if left on long enough ..

this tape job took me less than 10 minutes to do ..

Mix alcohol with water 50/50 to remove.

Waxes that WILL NOT stain trim
Pinnacle Liquid Souveran
Pinnacle Signature Series 2
Pinnacle Souveran Paste
DP MaxWax

Chemical Guys has a lot of different dressings to chose from, http://www.chemicalguys.com/category_s/13.htm

Best thing you can do for the black trim is Aerospace 303. Search the forum and you'll find A303 has quite a few fans on here. You can get it at boat/rv stores or online at Amazon & others.

Gipraw good point. I also tape mine off when I am using the PC. I like Poorboys trim restore on the plastic.

If you will search within this topic you will find several posts where I recommend using thin, flat metal, much like household flashing to separate the plastic from the area being waxed. Dull the edge of the flashing with duct tape to avoid scratching. A very slight amount of wax may touch your plastic. This is where plain water and a tooth brush will take away the wax upon your plastic.

did you wipe it off right away, or allow it to dry and stay on the trim for days?
