Tape on Paint

What is the best way to get the thick two sided tape off that is used to hold on accessiores? I had the rain visors on the side windows of my truck, one fell off so I removed with the other 3, now I have lots of tape residue all of the paint and trim. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get it off.

I have seen TV car shows where they use a special buffing wheel in a drill chuck. 3M product I think and I may have read threads here on it too. Worked well, no paint damage. Search detail/body shop suppliers .

Peal all the tape off and then use brake cleaner and a towel. Thats how i got mine off. You can have any tape on there though when you start. Peal it all off the best you can.

Thumbs up

I'm a pipefitter/welder and sometimes have to use a 7.5" grinder to clean big pipe.I bet it will remove that glue in mere seconds!

When I had my 97 F150 the visors fell off leaving that awful tape.Being I live in sunny Fl. I just waited for a hot day and used a putty knife to remove the tape, very carefully tho! BTW,it was on the rubber molding not the paint!

I have used a heat gun to get the tape off also. I had forgotten about that untell he had said something. A blowdryer will work to. Just dont let teh wife know you stole it.

Heard that works well. I use a commercial strength citrus degreaser (ZEP Big-Orange) and it works better than anything else I've ever used. It Kicks 3M Adhesive Remover's bu-tocks! (and I like 3M products )

Add another for the goo-gone.

Used it on my stupid dealer sticker on the back tail gate and came off flawlessly. Didn't do anything to the paint, but to be extra cautious I took a rag with some water and made sure all the goo-gone was off before finishing.

IMHO....

We stopped using 3M when the rep showed us how well the Big-Orange removed the adhesive left after peeling the stripes/decals off of our police car fleet. I was sold on it in about 10 minutes!
