the previous owner of my truck lightly smoked in the truck, so there was a light odor when i got it. i deep cleaned all the fabrics in my truck and used a lot of fabreeze. i also picked up air scent things that clip onto the air vents inside the truck. it works almost like hanging scent paper trees from the mirror, but sense its in the vents it disperses the smell everywhere. i dont remember the name of them, but i got them at the local auto parts store. i hope these may help you even though you have a little worse odor in your truck.

That's what I did. For the first few weeks of ownership, I fabreezed my truck religiously at least twice a week. Then I moved onto the air freshners (hidden, of course). Now I've got the little things that go in your vents.

[QUOTE=rustyzipper]ProLiminator® is the best tobacco smoke product
there is. Even on heavy saturated cigar smoke in hotel
rooms. It also engulfs odors of both animal and human urine,
mold, mildew, mustiness, vomit, flood, even dead body
stench.

I gotta have some of this if it really will get rid of dead body stench!!!

If you are going to use something like ozuim I would roll the windows up, spray the whole can in there and turn the air on full blast on recurculate. Of course you should be outside of the vehicle while this is going on. Open the glovebox and spray a good bit behind there. That is where the A/C draws air from. Let that stuff circulate for a while like maybe 30 mins. Once you do that, I would let all the windows down and keep the air running full blast on recir. to get some fresh air in there. This will help get a tremendous amount of the smell out of the a/c. Unfortunately, if she keeps smoking in there there is nothing you can do.

I'm not sure that I follow you. I have no experience with OZONE or O3 but have used OZIUM which is basically an air freshener with more kick. I suppose you could use that OZONE the same way since it is gaseous. I would make sure to open the glovebox and spray directly into A/C intake. But I did this on my old Dodge Dakota after a VERY thorough detailing of all interior panels and cloth. You would have never known that it was smoked in. Then again, once I had cleaned it, it was never smoked in again either.

RP, do you know of any automotive air purifier/ionizer that actually works? i was thinking of getting one and thought you might know something about something.

Oh yeah, you might want to invest in some ventshades too. That way you can keep the windows cracked and get some fresh air flow in there. It won't make the problem go away, but it will get some of the odor out on a daily basis.

I was simply showing the relation in the names... Ozone Ozium...

The brand name was modeled around the effective use of OZONE as a sanitizing air treatment -- now, with air laws the way they are, naturally, the can't bottle 'ozone' and sell it but, they can still spin the name.

Don't know much about the ionizers... sorry. I understand EXACTLY how they work (very simplistic) but, from the standpoint of offering better air, not sure that I can attest for it... Here's a read on ionizers

Here's a boring read on ozone machines put out by EPA

Here are a few Ozone Generators on Ebay

Yes, I use the Proliminator. It does what it says, and you can mix it at different strengths. It has a very pleasant and mellow fruity, berry smell that dissipates along with the nasty smells. Even at full strength I wouldn't consider it an overpowering smell.

I use it around the house also. By the gallon, it will last a good long time using the dilution specs. It will get rid of cigar and cigarette smoke completely.

I like the ozone machine too. It will work just as effectively.

My wife and I own a carpet cleaning, window cleaning and fire restoration business.

I work in a garage for a trucking company. We have one of those machines to put in the trucks after someone gets out of it that smoked. That thing leaves a smell of it's own behind. I can't even describe it. It will take your breath away. We've learned to turn it down and not run it as long. Otherwise you wouldn't like the new smell.

Ionizer.

Ozone machines are odorless... ionized air does have a distinct smell.

I agree with rustyzipper on the proliminator and the ozone machine. I used to do fire/water damage restoration as well. I'd use them both. You need the ozone machine because you'll never be able to spray liquid in all the places that smoke gets into, but ozone will get it. Proliminator or an enzyme based product would work great on the seat and carpet where the ozone will have a harder time penetrating. When using ozone leave the machine in the truck as long as possible, like a day or two on a weekend if you can, the longer you can treat it the more effective it will be. Also run the a/c and heater ocasionally to get the ozone through that path as well. Don't forget to open the truck up and air it out before driving it, concentrated ozone is bad for you. Good luck.

Tell your wife to crack a window when she smokes. I smoke in my truck a lot...my parents don't really know I smoke (well they do I told them I quit in September of 06) whoops but my truck never smells. I always run defrost and floor when I smoke in my truck (it keeps the smell from getting near the windshield) and the main perpetrator (sp??) for the smokey smell is when you stop or have the window up. As long as there is a window cracked and the A/C or Heat runnin' you shouldn't have problems. When you clean the truck (major cleaning) completely scrub down the WINDSHIELD (sounds wierd but the nicottine and tar and crap clings to it) just like windows in a house. If she smokes as much as I do in my truck there will be a decent layer on the windshield trust me on that one. A little febreeze never hurt no one either just remember to get the headliner real well (smoke rises so does the smell). Of course all the other parts get affected just focus on those too and ask her to keep the cig near the driver's side window defroster (blows RIGHT out the window like a jet stream lol)

P.S. my dad drives my truck while I am at school (to the dump and stuff and lowes and he never says anything besides "the interior is a mess with water bottles!"
