My first detailing adventure!

Well guys, everythings arrived and I'm now ready to attempt to clean up my truck. I'll be posting pics of the progress, but I probably won't get a chance to start until this weekend.

I've got a pretty good idea of where I'm going with all this, plus I got 2 DVDs of 'how-to' with my gear, but if anyone has any tips or suggestions, please feel free to give me your $0.02!

Here's all the gear I've got...

And here are some before pics of the truck...

Water spots on the hood

Typical scratches/swirls

Some more water spots

I'd be interested on how well your DA works. I have some terrible clear coat etching on my (black paint) hood myself that I would like to level and remove.

What I'm not sure about is, if the DA polisher would be the answer VS. a high speed, rotary buffer.

Wow, that is one heck of a collection of products you have there to start out with. I have never used any of the Adam's polishes. Can't wait to see the results.

Haha, yeah, I'm thinking I may have gone a little overboard, but I figured what the hell, might as well get a complete kit and see what happens. I got the "Real Absolute Essentials Kit" from Adams which includes:

-A 4 1/4 gallon Detail Bucket with Spin-off Lid
-Car Wash
-Foam Wash Pad
-Grit Guard Bucket Insert
-Microfiber Waffle Drying Towel
-Clay Bar
-Detail Spray
-1/2 Gallon Detail Spray Refill
-Vinyl, Rubber, & Tire Dressing
-In & Out Detail Spray
-Leather Conditioner
-Three Detail Sponges
-Swirl & Haze Remover
-Revive Polish
-Butter Wax
-Three Microfiber Applicator Pads
-Three Blue Plush Microfiber Polishing Towels
-Instructional DVD

Then I added in the 2, 2-sided PC polishing pads with the quick release adapter (which came with another DVD on how to use the PC with Adams products), the set of #1 and #2 metal polishes, and a firemans nozzle for the hose.

I got the PC 7336 at Lowes on a closeout sale.

I really like Adam's products.

This is what I did to my Wife's black Mustang convertible the weekend after we brought it home from the dealer.

Wash the car.
Clay bar.
Swirl and haze remover.
Revive polish.
2 coats of butter wax.
Topped it off with brilliant spray glaze.

I also cleaned the windows with Invisible Glass and then applied the brilliant spray glaze to the outside of the windows.

VRT on the tires, plastic and rubber and also to the convertible top.

All interior vinyl/plastic with VRT. I used Meguiars leather conditioner on the seats and steering wheel. I normally use Obenaufs leather conditioner on my King Ranch seats, but I haven't had good luck with it on the top coated leather seats. I have not yet tried Adam's leather conditioner.

The wheels are clear coated so I applied a couple of coats of Finish 2001. I also use Finish 2001 on the un-exposed paint surfaces, like door jambs, under the hood, the inside of the trunk lid, etc. I don't want to have to wax those areas every time and the Finish 2001 will last for an entire year, although I will usually apply it twice a year.

Last step was Adam's metal polish on the chrome exhaust tips.

Mark05KR: That sounds pretty much like what I'll be doing. BTW, I've got a bottle of the Adams Leather Conditioner and no leather in my truck... perhaps there's a trade to be made....

What did you have in mind?
It seems like you already have everything that I could possibly trade.

You are correct.

Get that rig looking good and post up some pics. That's what I'm talkin' about.

I'm shooting for sunday... I've got to go into my regular job for several hours, help my old roommates with a build project, and do some paperwork for my parents company on Saturday, so I don't think I'll have time to get to the truck. I also just got my Westin Bull Bar with PIAA 525's (anyone who knows how to wire those up, HELP!!! See my thread in the electrical forum), so I've got to get that installed too.

I'll definitely be sure to take pictures along the way to show exactly what I'm doing. I may even do half of the hood or tailgate just to make the before and after shots easy.
