I just bought a bunch of stuff and was planning on giving my truck the full detail tonight since this is the only time cool enough to do it. This is what I bought, I just need to know what order to do it in. Thanks!!!

  • Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
  • Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish
  • Meguiars Gold Class Carnaba Wax
  • Meguiars NXT Tech Wax

in this order:

Wash
Clay - use lots of lube
DC Cleaner (read the instructions, don't let it dry)
DC Polish
NXT (2 coats)
drink beer
post pics

add the carnuba over the top if you want to .. although it is not necessary.

I would do what Gipraw said, with one exception -- I would apply one layer of NXT and then top it with one (or more, depending on how ambitious you are) layer of carnuba.

I feel your pain, I spent 5 hours yesterday cleaning and waxing my truck only to have an 80 percent chance of rain today. At least after a fresh coat of wax it's easier to wash.

Would you recommend using a cleaner on a new truck? I just bought a new Screw last week and was planning on doing the following in this order:

Wash truck
Clay kit
Polisher
NXT Wax

Should I use the cleaner before the polisher even though the paint appears to be perfect since this is a new car?

Thanks

A 'cleaner' is something that will remove oxidation and provide some 'polishing' power. In short, if you don't have oxidation and/or swirls and such, a 'cleaner' may not be necessary.

Also, I've noted that you mention that you're going to use a 'polisher'. I assume that you mean that you're going to apply the NXT (a last step product -- aka: wax) with the polisher? As in a mechanical, plug it into the wall, type of machine?

As for the clay... goodness yes. It'll blow you away how much 'gunk' is attached to your 'NEW' paint.

No, I will not use a polisher in terms of a buffer/machine. I personally don't believe in buffers. I like doing it all by hand. I was thinking of using the Meguirs Deep Crystal polisher liquid. Anyway, I guess I'd better set aside oh??? about all day for the adventure, huh???

Ehh... you'd believe in them if you could see what you can accomplish over hand work -- but, I understand being aprehensive about them.

Deep Crystal Polish is a good choice. It's very light on the abrasive side and features more 'fillers' than anything. You'll need the better portion of a day to do it and do it right. Remember, don't move to the next step until you have the step you're working on the way that you want it. As has been said oodles of times before by most here -- Prep is the key!

I still doubt, though, that you need a cleaner.
