Paint Chip Advise

Take a look at these pics of some chips that I have on my tailgate. It looks to me like they are clear coat only, but I know nothing about this stuff. If you are knowledgable in this area please advise me on what I should do, if anything at all. Thanks!

Here's a great write up Intel on how to deal with paint chips. Hope it helps.

OK, I read that thread. But I am still a bit confused about whether or not I need "paint" to fill in a clear coat chip? It looks to me like the paint is still there. I don't mean to argue, but I just want to make sure I do the right thing. I've lived with the chips for 6 months and I would rather just leave it alone if the fix is above my skill level.

Hi baroy,

I had one on my door that looked similar to yours. I'm pretty sure it was done by a flinging door at work.
If you can run your nail accross it and it still feels smooth, you should be ok. In my case, I just used Mother's SynWax and applied it with a microfiber pad applicator, which cuts a little more than the foam. Easy downward pressure at first, wipe and take a look. Apply more pressure incrementally, wiping off and checking each time to see if it's gone, until hopefully it disappears. That did the trick for me.

If this doesn't do it, you might try a little more aggressive polish.

Good luck.
P

Pete,

I appreciate the response, but it is definitely not smooth to the touch. There is no way to polish these out. There is too much of a chuck missing.

Thanks again for the effort.
