Advance dropping Meguiars GC for Mothers

I was reading on another forum that Meguiars products are heavily discounted at Advance Auto Parts locations. I went out today and wiped out a few locations. Advance is dropping the Gold Class line for the new Mothers line of car detailing accessors that will be out in January of 2006.

So RP & Boss, you guys eyeing any of the new Mothers tools? Personally I'm more excited about the new Meguiars products coming out in 2006 but hey I think Mothers makes a good product too.

Chris,

Yep, I've also heard that Advance is switching to Mothers, but don't know how true it is.

Having said that, while I love many of the Mothers new detailing products, a quick glance at the new Mothers detailing tools leads me to believe that for the most part, it is more of the "same old-same old" with one or two possible exceptions.

Yes, the brushes look nice, and the towels are supposed to be excellent. However, there are tons of great brushes and towels around anymore. The two possible exceptions are the drying towel and the sheepskin/lambswool wash mitt.

The drying towel is actually "two" WW towels, with a thin foam core in the middle for extra absorption. The concept sound great... we'll see how it performs?

As for the sheepskin mitt... I'm always looking for the best mitt. Again, we'll see?

In addition, the Mothers towels are made in Korea, whereas the Meguiar's towels are made in China. Supposedly, and I say "supposedly"... towels made in Korea are "supposed" to be better than those in China. I take that one with "a grain of salt", and come to my own conclusions.

I'm holding up on buying some new WW towels and good wash mitts until I've had a chance to try the new Mothers products.

Whatever the case, it's good to see the manufacturers "fighting" over our $$$$$$. Competition is good for us consumers.

I had heard / read this as well. Like Boss, I've been eyeballing some of the new goodies that they're putting on the market.

What we're seeing is big time competition between two big time players within the 'wax' market. Market share is critically important to both groups...

Exactly!

To be honest, I hope some of the Mothers' accessories are superior to the Meguiar's tools, as that will force Meguiar's to one up Mothers... and so on and so on.

That really benefits us "fanatics", and all consumers in general.

In the end, I always look for the safest, highest quality, most durable, easiest to use, and all in all... best detailing products and tools. Doesn't matter to me who makes them.
