Windshield crack

Bought my truck with a little chip in the shield, first day of summer it cracked 7 inches in matter of a day. Now that its getting colder, its getting bigger. Cant feel it from the inside, but your nail gets cought on the outside. What can I do? I want to at least get another year out of it.

You can get intouch with a glass repair shop and see if they can do anything for you. I do not know of any product that's on the shelf at your local automotive store that would fix your problem.

In Virginia it depends on where the crack is.
I have a crack about three feet long in the windshield, been there for five years and five state inspections.

It took the hit about six inches up from the dash and ran East/West.
If it had run North/South it wouldn't pass inspection.

There is no repair for a crack that has run. The only choice is replacement. Call several businesses for quotes, and if one quotes you a larger amoount tell them the quote you got from another company was signifigantly lower. They have prices, then they have prices. I use a particular glass company for repairs (mostly just to help my customers out, I usually only make like $20 on a job) and when they quote me, I have before said well company AA said that they could do it for $XX. Then,, all of the sudden, it can be done cheaper!

Imo I would say leave it that way until spring because chances are it will happen again during the winter.

don't know where you live, but here in the Houston area there are windshield repair guys most everywhere. A crack can be repaired to the extent that it will not crack any more (they drill very tiny holes at the ends of the crack and then fill them with uv cureable acrylic resins), the crack itself can be filled with resin - but the sooner you get it to a repair shop the better as the longer it sets then the higher the chance of dirt and debris will set into the crack.

I just had my wifes repaired - about a 10" crack, that now is only noticeable when looking at the glass from different angles. Only cost $40 dollars here...

I don't know about Indiana but the windshield won't pass state inspection here in NJ. I just replaced my 97 windshield about 3 weeks ago. It was only $240 installed for a Ford windshield although Ford isn't the one who replaced it. A generic windshield would have been only $175. That was the cheapest price I ever paid for a windshield. I guess it was because there is no antenna in the windshield.

I had my windshield replaced a few weeks ago from www.safelite.com
they give you a quote and come right out to your house/work within a week or so. Cost me $160 installed on my explorer.
