help...white lacquor on black truck...
I'm pissed.....on friday at work, a painter spraying metal house doors with white laquor got my tail gate and left rear, right rear...I made the miistake of parking in front of the drive way and the wind blew the laquor onto my truck...my truck was dirty at the time and I did not notice it until today after I washed it......Laquor is dry and scrapes of with my finger nail....but i'm also taking off some black paint as well......I'm sure I can buff it out along withe scrtachs I have accumulated.....any advice?
If it will come off with your fingernail, try a pressure washer from a reasonable distance, say 12 inches (based on what tip you use!!!)
If that doesn't work, you can use a mineral spirits type chemical that will liquify the paint again and rub it off (rub lightly, this will scratch the clear coat!!!!!) Use the mineral spirits (available at wal-mart) to get the heavy areas, and then use a clay bar to smooth the surface. You'll proably need to high speed the area with a yellow foam pad, then go back and use an orbital with another yellow foam pad to remove the swirls (for darker color cars, white grey and other light colors can drop that last step most of the time) After that (which was using a very light synthetic cut compound) go back over it with a good wax (not paste) Something petrolum based will work the best, although there isnothing wrong with carnuba.
