Simple Green

I used Simple Green, diluted, to clean the interior of Mike’s truck. Now the threads on the seats are coming loose. Took it to Ford and they would not guarantee it because they said the Simple Green is “eating” the threads. Did I “simply” miss the obvious (given a line by Ford) or is Simple Green an aggressive cleaner that deteriorates the threads.

Hard to say but, I'd say that Ford certainly has grounds to stand upon because Simple Green is a VERY aggressive cleaner... The pH is around 9.5 I believe but, even at that level, you're going to see problems IMO...

The first thing I shall do when I get home is to throw the Simple Green in the garbage. The next thing I shall do is look for a new place to live. Mike will not be happy when he returns from his trip.

what possesed you to use it on the inside anyway?

Don't throw it away, it's a great product for the outside stuff (wheels/tires/engine bay/etc..).

The thought did occur to me. I am just not good a lying or bluffing. It is the same reason Mike never wants to be my partner in cards.

Chris,

It all hinges on how diluted the SG was when it was applied. Out of the bottle, you can smell the stuff blocks away.

My suggestion is hang a few dozen of those little pine tree deodorizers, if that doesnt work, find a real pine tree and hang yourself before Mike gets home.

By the way, they say you can drink Simple Green! And it will kill ants! But don't put it on your paint, plastic, etc. It will remove paint and disolve plastic in strong concentrations! I know from experience (bad).

That's what happens when you turn an engineer lose on a simple cleaning job.

Sorry about your problem.

A Good Line

OK people, what would be a good line to tell Mike about the truck. Failing this approach, the suggestion of hanging from a tree sounds good.

In addition, I am an EE and ME, not a cleaning expert.

Chrishulgan

Should it not be "I am an EE and I am not a cleaning expert"? Instead of "ME not a cleaning expert"??

I keed wit you!

This Mike, and I can't believe I'm writing this in a truck forum, would forgive my love of 37 yrs, but yes I would cry over the truck!

Mike will definitely forgive me. It just when this will occur is my major concern. Do termites eat thread? Actually, I am embarrassed for using Simple Green as an interior cleaner. At least it was Mike’s truck and not mine.

Actually, I want to thank you, Chrishulgan. I am always looking for something to quickly remove stains, and without your post I might have used the Simple green myself. I have used it under hoods, and on vinyl tops etc. lots of times.
