This was just asked a couple days ago. Our local experts said to use whatever you prefer.

If given the choice, I always opt for paste over liquid. My reasoning? Even though I'm fully **** retentive (Translation: very careful), when using a liquid, I always seem to get some where I don't want it. (black textured trim, etc.) With paste, I seem to be better able to control not only where it goes - but where it doesn't. Like the experts have said though, your call. Both are excellent products.

I see instances where a paste may work better than a liquid and vice-versa...
I will say that I think I use less product when I use paste and thus, it's probably a bit more efficient...

A complicated reply
I've found that a container of Paste seems to last a lot longer than a bottle of the Liquid, like RockPick said.
I used to always wax by hand, but I recently bought a waxer/polisher (The Coleman 6" at Walmart, $15) -- It's very light duty and wont ruin the finish the way you could with a powerful professional buffer, and does a beautiful job applying an even, thin coat of wax. Makes for easy-on and easy-off with the liquid wax, and gives you enough time to apply two coats if you wish.
By hand I always tend to use too much wax, and I just end up wasting a lot of wax, time and energy when I dont have to.
But if you must do it by hand, I think the Paste offers better control because it's thicker, but the liquid seems easier to spread thinly and thus easier to buff off.
