Unhappy black steprails dinged

I have a 2000 F-150 with the black side rails (powdercoated? not sure). They were either dealer or factory installed, and after 4 years there is a bit of rust on the wear areas. Any recommendations on repair?

head to your nearest autobody supply store. ( not autoparts )
buy a good hd scuff pad, some primer and some paint. Scuff them
up really really good ( make sure there's absolutely no sheen left
on the original paint ( if it's not all worn out already ) prime 'em
with a couple of good coats then paint. You might even want to ask the man at the counter ( hopefully he's wise to his products)about something to put on before the primer to help slow down
the return of the rust. EXTEND is a good one but you need to use the brush on type ( the spray on version is sorta ng ) we use it at my job for the equipment trailers, hasn't let us down yet. 15 yrs
we by it in bulk and stock it year round.. that's just one little
quickie way but the cast of characters on this site i'm sure can give you some excellent advice too.. good luck ..
