Paint Cracks - 1998 F-150????
Got a question. Has anyone else run into this? I have a 1998 F-150 with black paint. I recently noticed real fine cracks (it looks like 1/4 inch fine hairs) in the paint. When asked, the local Ford dealer body shop manager said it was real common in black paint. He also said that if I would have noticed it when I had my DOOR CRACKS fixed at 60,000 miles, I could've had the truck repainted under warranty. But now that it has 70,000 miles, they can't fix it. Is there anything that can be done? And if it is such a "common problem" in that paint, why won't they stand behind it? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
More than likely its your clearcoat. Ive been waxing my 98 pacific green F-150 since it was new and it still has slight clear coat cracking-looks like very fine hairs in a spot about the size of a dime. Other than waxing regularly, i dont know what you can do.
I've got a couple spots on my truck. They are "crows feet"
I haven't been able to take a good picture of them. They look like a very fine web and cracks in the clearcoat and cover small areas. About the size of a dime or quarter or maybe larger.
They are normal to Ford paint but shouldn't be on the paint. They have to do with the way the paint was applied and you should get a repaint as it is Ford's Fault.

Actually the areas on my truck are all over - hood, fenders, doors, and roof. these are limited to small coin size areas. They are about 1/4 inch long, and actually look like small fine hairs or fibers. But I do remember hearing something fine cracks in the clear coat though. Is this wax settling into the cracks maybe?
