Cleaner / Polish / Wax / Sealant List

After doing several searches on this forum I think I have come up with a list of products for these 4 categories "Cleaner / Swirl Remover", "Polish", "Wax" and "Sealant". I have tried to seperate these not by name but by what the actual product is designed for. I am by no means an expert, I based my decisions on what people have posted here and from the product's web sites. Please correct anything I have listed wrong (and of course this is not a complete list of ALL products, just the ones that seem to keep showing up here).

CLEANER / SWIRL REMOVER
Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish
Meguiar's #1 Medium Cut Cleaner
Meguiar's #2 Fine Cut Cleaner
Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover
Zaino Z1
Liquid Glass Pre-Cleaner
Pro's P-21 Swirl Eliminator and Polish

POLISH
Klasse All-In-One
Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze
Zaino Z5

WAX
Klasse Sealant Glaze
Meguiar's #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax
Meguiar's Medallion Premium Paint Protection
Zaino Z2
S100
Pro's P-35 Satin Creme
Pro's P-42 Yellow Wax
Cherry Wet Wax

SEALANT - (contains no wax)
Pro's Profection Paint Sealant

I wont get into the cleaner list details but if you decide to go with or use the Zaino line I know the local detail guru who is a distributor for them in Durham.

Under polish you can put Liquid glass

Z1 doesn't belong under Swirl Remover though, Z5 belongs there

Z2 and Z5 belong under Polish

and depending on what you mean by sealant, Z1 and ZFX can go under that category

Add Pro's #1 Polish under polish

Klasse Sealant Glaze goes under Sealant. It contains no natural wax. It is an acrylic.

Zaino Z1 and Z5 also belong under Sealant. They both contain no Natural Wax.

Pro's Polymer II, Blackfire, Platinum, and Liquid Glass can also go under Sealant.

Harley#356, Z5 isn't a swirl remover. It is a sealant that is thick so multiple layers of it will hide swirls. You still need to get your paint swirl free as many Zealots have reported to me that Zaino highlights imperfections.

I can think of more products later

1. Just a question to further my education. Are not most "swirl removers" including Z-5 just fillers?

2. The swirls that people see, if I remember correctly, did you not say they are actually scratches in the clear coat?

3. If I am correct with my past education from you, if they are scratches in the clear coat the only way to remove them would be to actually take some of the remaining clear coat off? Which some cleaners do corrert?

4. If someone, like me, buffer wuss and Load of chickensh*t's about messing up the paint, would it not be a better idea to have a "professional" properly remove "swirl marks"?

Thanks in advance for a further education...

yeah, i know Z5 isn't a true swirl remover, but they market it as that, so thought i'd throw it in there. I didn't notice any improvement, although luckily i don't have many swirls. Its a waaay better polish than a swirl remover

Swirl Removers will remove the swirls and should remove them. One reason I don't like Zaino is because they call their stuff a polish. It confuses too many people and I always end up having to explain to them Z2 and Z5 are both waxes. There is no abrasive material in them. Some Swirl Removers do contain fillers to help hide any imperfections they do not get.

2. The swirls that people see, if I remember correctly, did you not say they are actually scratches in the clear coat?
Swirls are scratches in the paint. Most people cobweb swirls with swirls. Swirls are caused my rotarys.

Here are cobweb swirls:

Here are Swirls:

Correct, you have to remove the paint. You are leveling the remaining paint down to the level of the swirl or other imperfection you are trying to remove.

Compound or Polish can be used to remove them. Sometimes an agressive glaze can remove them also.

You could have a pro do it (I might be able to find a good one in your area) or you can attempt to do it yourself. Stuff can be done by hand. It only takes longer.

Shouldn't Megiaurs Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner be included in the cleaner section? Just a thought since it has been recomended to me by some of you who will remain nameless but know who you are. A good place to buy your detail supplies is at www.premiumautocare.com Nice folks that will take care of you and if you place a big enough order you get free shipping so that's pretty cool.
