The site has had more than one version of software and was orginally a 'mailing list'. For awhile, the two ran concurrently.
In databases a date field is a date field and requires a date.
There are 328 members who have the fictious date of 12/31 1969.

There are another half-dozen members who I believe had dates 'hand jammed' by Steve for whatever reason. Steve's date for example probably truely represents the birth of the site.

The first legitimate machine date in my estimation is 07/31/1998 and belongs to a member named 'hoss'.
While it shows that 'hoss' never posted, in fact he may have. Around June or July of 1999, all threads that didn't have activity for a week or two were lost.

Hey R!

I was wondering what you could add since you don't change your own oil .

I don't change my own oil either; I was reading this so if anyone ever asked I could say, "Well I use 6 qt without a filter change, but 6.5 with one; although you can add up to 7 with no bad results; but I wouldn't because it can blah blah blah blah.."

One more reason no one talks to me at parties anymore.

They were lost as in deleted, dropped, ka-put.
The host Steve was using made some arbitary decision when a problem arose and they couldn't reach him.

At least that is what Steve told us at the time.
I always suspected Steve got drunk and tripped over a power cord.

And yes i was one of the original mailing list members along with a lot more people one of whom is JMC. Not sure about who is still on here that belonged back then. If you go the the original Owners gallery probably the first 3 pages of photos are from people who belong to the mailing list,a pic of my truck is on page one from that but i have also now made my own gallery after not keeping up with the site over the last year or two maybe even a bit longer than that.

Go to
Choose Advanced Search.

Fill in Joined before 1970-01-01
and Fill in Post count greater than 1.

You will find what is left of the old mailing list.

(JMC somehow got a special date)
Maybe you should try Joined before 1978-07-31

Just use your common sense, man. Put in 6 quarts, run the engine, check the filter for leaks, etc. Then, let the engine sit for 10 minutes on a level surface, and then check the dipstick. It should be at or near the max mark. If low, add a little more oil to get the oil to the full (max) mark, being carefull not to overfill.

Nothin to it!

I think most of use understand that we were simply discussing how much oil people have been putting in there trucks to bring them to the full or near full mark on the dipstick.

Richard,
Go back and read the original post in this thread. Angus wanted to know if he needed to add aditional oil to his engine when changing the oil and filter, in addition to the 6 quarts called out in the owners manual. My responce was to him, not you or anyone else.

How much Oil
I read the owners manual it stated the 5.4 v8 requires 6 quarts of oil is that with a filter change or will i need more if i change the filter also.)

His question is not if he needed to add more oil only if it was 6 quarts with a filter change or without a filter change and if he needed to add more when changing the filter. The rest of us that replied then began reporting what we were doing when we changed the oil in our trucks. Anyway enought said i think the topic has been talked over and is understood by all at this point.

I for one am going to listen to kidtrition's advice and check the oil level now when I have 6 quarts in for the change. Richard D, I don't remember you from years ago. I stumped into this website in April or May of 97, just before I ordered my truck. Then I sorta faded away for awhile and then returned. But even in 97 JMC was already a legend here.

JMC is just a shadow of his former self. He's lost a step, doesn't have the stamina to go twelve rounds anymore.
I hate to say it but, he's getting by on reputation.
