Lightbulb cracked paint job

cracked paint job
i just bought an 2001 F150 supercrew in great shape, but i noticed that the paint job is cracked all over the truck. i took it to the dealer and they said they could not do anything about it. is there any one else out there with the same problem? if so what is next?

Hey guys, I referred jl up here for a little guidance...

I know I've heard talk about certain types of 'fillers' that can be put on the finish to, obviously, fill imperfectcions in the paint. Would something like this work for him?

Sounds like clearcoat failure to me. Should be covered under warranty,I believe there is a TSB on this issue. If your dealer don't want to help, contact Ford or find another dealer who is willing to help you. Good luck!

It might be like the marks I have on my trucks hood. I have a couple spots of Crows Feet on my hood and on the roof. I haven't gotten around to taking it to ford but don't expect them to help b/c I'm off warranty

jl,

If your truck is still under warranty, I would take it to another dealer. If there is a problem with the paint, they should fix it. The paint on a 2001 truck shouldn't be cracking............. period!

If there is reputable body shop in your area, stop by and ask them what they think it is, and what would cause it. Then, you might have some ammo when you go to the dealer.

If the clearcoat is going bad on your vehicle, you just need to stay on Ford's butt and sometimes they will come through for you.

The paint on the hood, roof and trunk of my Wife's 94 Crown Victoria was going bad(grey primer showing thru) and last year she e-mailed Ford and they had her take it to the dealer so a area rep could look at the car, they agreed to repaint the areas that were bad.

My friend's 96 Mercury was doing the same thing and the Lincoln-Mercury dealer told him to get lost. I think it really boils down to how good your Dealer is and if they want satisfied customers.
