Angry heater problems

i have a 98 reg cab 4.2l
heres the problem. the heater will only blow hot air when there is a load put on the motor. while driving down the road its fine but as soon as i stop anywhere ie light, drive-thru, the air turns cold. no matter what position any of the selectors are on hot or cold defrost or panel hi or low. its always the same hot air going down the road but i stop and here comes the cold air.

hope that everyone has a safe and happy new year

Cal

timing cover leaking coolant externally or lower intake leaking into the cylinders. Seen a lot 4.2's lately hydrolock and bend rods from coolant leaking from the intake.

Either way, what you have is low coolant, fill it up and it will fix the heat. But it wont fix the leak
