I have no kids, but I herad on the news if you were to invest the 400.00 in a RESP, Alberta Government will give you $80.00, so thiers a extra $160.00.

Even paying down credit card debit is wise, But I'm not telling anyone how live their lives...only have to pay 121.00 on Febs truck payment thanks to Ralph, but money never is really free..

Sweet, never heard that before, will definitely look into that. Do you know if the AB government is still giving a $500 college fund for newborns, or was that just a one time thing awhile back?

FYI, just looked into it, any newborn born after 2005 is eligible for the $500 RESP grant. Thats a grand total of $1460 from the AB government for the little one. Thats a pretty good start, and I never had to directly invest anything.

I thought the newborn thing was only for 2005 (centennial) babies?

cyclone vampire, do you remember where you heard this? I can't find any info on the website about it, only the $500 grant for newborns, was it maybe an incentive from a bank or something?
