Looking for 1992-1996
The locker started on the Raptor and FX4, and now is across the line - limited slip is almost gone now.
Lockers of the vintage you are looking at were very squirrely on the street. They are much better now because they work in conjunction with electronic traction control. The locker Ford is using is a e-locker, not a mechanical locker.

I understand that they may have been "squirrely on the street," but lockers aren't meant for the street. They're meant for low traction situations. A limited slip will never be as effective as a locker, so why not throw an e-locker or mechanical locker on an old rig for use off road?
Regardless, the simple addition of a locker makes a truck significantly more capable. 4x4 without a locker can have a lot more difficulty navigating rough terrain than a 4x4 with locker. Locked in the rear gets rid of one-tire-fire. It just doesn't make sense why you wouldn't equip a truck with a locker if you give it a LS. Right, some people like to mod their vehicles and install their own locker, but that is not the majority.
Id say the manuals are not that rare I don't know specifically about the configuration you mentioned. Type in "f150 manual" or "f150 5 speed" in your craigslist and sort through the results-there may not be many. You can also try searchtempest and it will sort craigslists within 100 miles or whichever parameter you choose.
