Cargo Net or spacer for the back
Cargo Net or spacer for the back
I have a Pace Edwards rolltop cover. Now I need something to keep groceries and small items in the back near the tailgate. I looked at the 'cargo bar' and the net that hangs from it, but the net is really more of hamic type, where you put stuff inside of it. I want a net, or a partition that will strecth across the top and the bottom to just create a 'compartment'. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations.

I was thinking the same thing. Go out and buy one of those $50. bars that you install inside the bed that you tighten between the sides. Then I remembered ... I just replaced a shower curtain rod and it did the same thing. It's only $5.+ at Home Depot. It's aluminum and stainless.
I'm either a cheap *** bastard or a friggin genius. I opt for the former.

I just bought one of those bars. $20 at Meijer. Its ratcheting too, so I can get it really tight really easy. I was at the hitch place last week and they had one that also had a plastic wall below it, similar to the net, but rigid. Sounds like exactly what you're looking for It was something like $100 though. I decided to go with the Meijer bar and a small action packer from a camping store.
Menards has both the twist-lock and the ratcheting ones for around the same price (~$25). I'd prefer the ratcheting, but I wonder about applying too much pressure when doing a "one more for good measure". Any damage to the bed from over-ratcheting?
I made a gate out of 2x2 pine for my long-bed that fits in the first set (looking from the rear) of stake pockets. Light enough to move, looks good (oak stain and clear polly), and I have a place to mount my fire extingiusher and MagLite . . . ! Looks alot like Bill Olson's (first picture in the Owner's Gallery), in fact, I stole the idea from him . . . !
