Mostly a lurker but I'm a little stumped. Ordered a new extang saber tonneau cover (turned out pretty well) and a new bed mat and tailgate bed mat from Performancetruck.com. Installation of the bed mat was a snap and I was able to figure out all by myself but the tailgate mat came in a box with no instructions or installation items, just a friggin piece of rubber in a box. Do I use the torx bolts on the upper part of the tailgate to fasten it, double sided tape, rtv, or what? Stupid question, yes, but I'm a little confused....

By the way, got the single swept Gibson and happy with it. Gibson shipped it without some parts but it is the right sound for me. A little more than stock without the drone I used to get in the cabin with my Expedition and Flowmaster.

 

I removed my factory Ford bedliner and dropped in a mat. However, I left the original hard tailgate liner on. I did this because in order to affix a tailgate mat, you'll need to drive screws or drill additional holes....which I didn't want to do. I believe you can buy just the tailgate section of a hard shell liner. Or, perhaps using a roll on, i.e. Herculiner on the tailgate. I would go with the hard shell variety.

Thanks for the help. I'd rather not drive screws into the tailgate either so I may have to explore other options. Anyone else have any ideas? As I have the mat and the box is gone I'd like to try to make it work.

 

From the sounds of it, this is just a rubber mat the size of your tailgate?

I would thing that you could get a tube of silicone sealeant (the kind that goes in a caulking gun for the amount), lower the tailgate, spread a good bead around the edged and throughout the middle, lay down the mat & let it set up for a few hours (or overnight).

This way you are not making any holes & the rubber mat could be pealed off the tailgate at some latter date (just getting all the silicone off may be a PITA )

You could also use the BedRug method of attachemnt. Strong velcro.

Go to a sewing store, genera hobby store or home center & get some good, wide velcro. With that it is cut to size, peal & stick!
You do not need to have 1 long continious piece, just several 1 or 2" strips spaced 6" apart (use your judgement on how much depending on the weight of the rubber mat).
