97-03 bed cover

Has anyone had good luck with these cheap bed covers? They don't all look the same, but they are all pretty much the same. some seem to mount differently, or pretty close to one another.

I just want a little something. I am not too concerned about being 100 watertight, I just don't want this thing flying off on the freeway.

I have one like that made by Lund, it's been on for 13 years now. It's pretty shot now, not surprising. The only downside is the clamp system that secures the side rails is not very good, if you put pressure on the rail when the cover is open and the tailgate is open, the clamps drop off. This is because what it clamps to is tapered.

what if I drilled a hole in the rails to mount it to the top of the bedsides (like one at the front and one at the back, plus also used the clamps)?

and it only pops off when opened and tailgate down? or either?

my bed doesn't get used that often really.... and not worried about rust of some bolt holes through the top either, we don't really have a rust issue where I live

I don't know how to describe the mounting system, but there's really no way to drill and bolt the rails.

I think the rails can be drilled. Looks like I have to get one now and report.
