I have a Bedrug in my '09 Platinum and absolutely love it! I'm now in the process of trading it for an identical 2012. The dealer friend of mine said I could transfer everything I've added on my '09 over to the 2012. The only concern I have is that the 2012's now come from the factory with a spray-in bedliner. Does anyone know if the velcro tape will stick to the factory bedliner?

Only about 20% of the trucks will have the spray in bedliner.

I saw the window sticker for the one that I'm getting and it has the factory spray-in bedliner. I haven't seen it yet because it's coming from another dealer up in Ga. Should know more, and may even be getting it, this week.

The current factory bedliner is pretty thin at about 40-60 mils which is about half the thickness of aftermarket bedliners. So, the Bedrug may fit just fine. Use the product below for the Velcro if it won't stick to the bed. You can find it at most auto stores such as Pep Boys.

Many thanks 'TruckGasm'. Ironically I just got off the phone with Bedrug customer service and they sort of recommended the same thing. The said they have a 'bedliner installation kit' available for that same purpose and it costs $15. She said their kit comes with something like a handi wipe to apply it with. I'll try checking around at the local auto parts stores to see who might be carrying it. Where did you find it?

That's what I use to apply the LINE-X warranty tags to the bedliner. I buy by the case from 3M, but I've seen it at Pep Boys. You might also try Amazon also.

Wipe the bedliner spot with some acetone or alcohol first to make sure it's clean before you stick the glue/Velcro to it. Acetone will work better than alcohol.

Won't the Acetone attack the bedliner and maybe make it soft or gummy? Bedrug said they had something called an adhesive promoter. Is this 3M product an adhesive in itself and would you ever be able to get it back off in case you had to replace the velcro?

Acetone evaporates VERY fast, it won't be there long enough to do anything to the bedliner. The 3M stuff is glue, so.....

I stopped by a local place that has sold and installed truck accessories for well over 25 years and asked them about it also. They said they always use an adhesion promoter and sent me down to a local auto paint supplier. They had the product I was looking for. It's a 3M #06396 called Automotive Adhesion Promoter and comes in little packages that look like the wet handiwipes you might get at a BBQ rib place :-) . They wanted $37 for a box of them (maybe a doz or so) so I went to another place and they sold them individually for about $1.70 apiece. I bought 4 of them hoping that will be enough.

I saw the truck on Thur and the bedliner does look pretty rough so I'm not sure just how well this is going to work. I'm picking the truck up today so I need to go out and pull the BedRug out and remove my eXtang SolidFold cover off.

Acetone actually opens the "pores" of the bedliner for a short period. An acetone wipe on bedliner products have been used for years when reapplying light coats (but not heavy coats).

Those little wipes have a small amount of alcohol in them and they will be fine for removing any grease, but they won't open the pores of the bedliner.
