Best quality, Leer or Snugtop?

I am looking for a fiberglass tonneau for my 2010 Platinum. Have narrowed it down to a Leer 800 or a Snugtop. Any comments on the quality of the Leer? also has anyone had any issues with the Snugtop SL single lock as compared to the dual lock? TIA

I have had both and the snugtop goes over the edges and the leer does not kinda sit fluch with the top of the bed. As far as finish the leer was better. On snug top the fiber glass is alittle wavy.

Thanks Heith,
I thought the Leer might sit higher but it was hard to tell from the photos I have seen. Did your Snugtop have the single lock? I have heardof some people having problems with that system if the truck isn't parked on level ground.

I had the Leer 100xq on my last truck and was very happy with it. I'm planning on getting a shell for my new truck and have been looking at the same brands as you. You also might want to look at the ARE shells. They look very nice as well.

hey guys i just bought a snugtop supersport for my 05 fx4 after looking at the leer and the a.r.e. pro's and con's that i have noticed. the snugtop has a superior rain gutter design(good for me in construction putting on coveralls in the rainy weather) better fit in regards to truck lines and overwrapping of bed rails, the new design latch system is much better and easier to operate, the pop out windows on the snugtop better suit me, they have a slider option but i dont like climbing in to latch, and the leer and snugtop side by side i couldnt help to see the strength difference in the snugtop shell. as for the leer its allmost 500 bucks cheaper, so if you arent really concerned about the features i mentioned its still a nice unit. now in second place for me was the a.r.e. the pro's were the hinges on the rear glass, they are very strong and the window has no plastic caps where the snugtop and the leer have them for the points of connection support arms. the drawback to the a.r.e. to me is the bead that runs around the bed rail edge doesnt look as clean as the other two. but the price is also several hundred less than the snugtop. now for my problem with the snugtop supersport shell that i purchased, make sure when you buy you tell the seller that you expect a color match! i have a dsg truck and believe it or not there are 7 shades of dsg in 2005. the shell was lighter and i brought it back and its currently being repainted, this is on snugtops dime and so far they have told me it will be right when they are done. i got a paint sample from my painter and sent it with the shell to snugtop thru the dealer no questions asked. so company support is there. we will see if it turns out right. hope this helps, i would post a pic but im on the low tech side of a caveman. e-mail me and ill send pics of shell installed. see ya.

I'd go with the Snugtop Snuglid F2. I do not have a tonneau, but have studied and seen the Leer and the A.R.E, and would go with the Snugtop F2. It's a bit $$ at around $1200, but it's a winner in looks and function.

I have a SnugTop bed cover on my 2009 Ranger (pictures in my gallery) and plan on ordering one for my 2005 F-150 in the next week or so. FWIW -- my local SnugTop dealer strongly recommended going with the dual lock system, as he felt the single lock set-up was more trouble than it was worth......

Yeah, the dealer I ordered from (Johnson GT4 on I-45 in Houston) said the same thing, so I went with the dual lock.

I don't have the receipt in front of me right now, but it was $995.00 plus tax.

That's a good deal -- I paid $40.00 more for the one on my Ranger back in July.
