Grommets (4 needed) YL3Z-84286A54-AA $6.38

I'm not sure how many come in a package, but I think it is either 2 or 4.

You were told the truth, but it does not work as designed. If you know the trick you can remove it just as fast with the tail gate up as you can with it down and the extender flipped out to the remove position.

You can easily remove it in the closed position by depressing the tabs, and slightly pushing downwards. Other side will come off easier than the first.

You can do a lock in there to keep it from being able to be flipped or removed if you buy a trailer lock.

Here is a thread where we talk about modifying it so that it cannot be removed so easily.
