Cap costs?

I'm looking at putting a cap on my truck probably within the next 30 days or so. Right now I'm looking at ARE and Leer, with Century a possible third option. Just curious what I may find for pricing when I start looking. I'm planning on hitting a few local dealers this weekend and seeing what sort of deals they'll cut me on a cap and a set of tube steps as well.

I've got a Leer 100XL on order. $1350 installed with matching paint done at Leer factory.

I've managed to find one on craigslist for mine. The guy was asking $550 he came down to $450. It turns out I actually know the guy so he's dropped the price down to $400. It's a LoRider (made by Raider I think) Craigslist rocks.

I checked Craigslist and ebay and didn't really see anything that caught my eye. Still planning on hitting the local dealers this weekend and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I appreciate it.

A top of the line A.R.E will set you back about 1,200 . THats the LSX with power lock and installed . Well, that was a year and a half ago.

I just ordered the same cap at the same price. I added the carpeted headliner and fold-down front window as options. Should have it installed in about 2 weeks.

I bought a new top of the line Leer cap once, and don't have plans to do it again. The resale on caps and covers sucks, bad.
There are always people out there selling their used caps, just have to be patient for the right one. A re-paint shouldn't be too much.

If I was concerned about resale value on everything I purchased, I'd probably never buy anything. I did check Craigslist and ebay for a few weeks and unless I wanted to drive to Florida to pick up a cap and then have it painted, I was pretty much SOL for what I wanted. I fully intend on having my truck for at least another 3 years so reselling the cap isn't high on my priority list right now. Protecting all the stuff I usually have in my bed is.

I'll post some picks when it comes in for those interested.

I had ordered a ARE a week after I bought my truck. It came in last week and I had it installed on Friday. I bought ARE off of the reccomendations of two co-workers that have them.
Cost was $1100.

Another avenue is Autotrader.
Just limit it to the distance you are willing to drive.
Both private sellers and used dealers are sometimes willing to seperate a cap from a truck, especially in these trying fiscal times.

You can even browse by color as most ads have pics.
