Sorry I've been off line. I'll try to catch up.

Thanks for the 's guys

Tungstontiller - Yakima rack is for larger stepladders primarily, but it is very flexible for other uses. The power locks were $155, but I really stretched the budget, so they didn't make the cut.

Average-Joe - The bottom line was just under $2200. That included $40 for the tilt in window, $355 for the roof rack, and $25 for an LED interior light. I could have saved about $600 if I went with the next one down in price, but I really liked the clean look of this model, so I scrounged up the $$ and got the one I liked. There's a fairly big difference between models. I had never bought a cap before, so it was a learning experience.

shroville - The locks work off of the passenger door lock wire. Every time you operate that door lock, the cap lock operates. This would be really handy. Maybe I'll go back and get it another time.

That's a great question. I'll call the dealer tomorrow, because it's not in any of the docs I got. I'm sure it's a tricky question to answer, because it would depend on each model of cap, since it rides on a track that is fitted directly to the top of the cap. ie, How much weight will the fiberglass support? As for longer extension ladders, I'd say it would not be ideal for that, because the distance between crossbars is a bit short, and off-center towards the back.

Here's a better pic that shows the rack a little closer. It has tracks that the towers slide in. Also the towers can be removed altogether, which is nice for keeping the appearance clean. This pic also better shows the quality of the windows, which are real glass, and are sealed and hinged on the inside, which really gives it a clean look. That's what sold me on this model, because I was trying to avoid the utilitarian appearance that my last cap had.

Looks good there MuddyTruck. I have an A.R.E. Z series on my truck also and I love it. I looked at several different caps and this is definetly one of the best built. Others had plastic hinges things like that. My local Leer dealer won't even sell their similar model with out you signing a release about the windows. I don't know if you have a bed liner or not but a Bedrug is a nice compliment to this cap. Also when I put mine on,I used a thicker double hump seal to prevent the lip that covers the bed cap from digging into the paint. Got it from a place called cargo gear. Something to think about if you ever take it on and off. I use mine for camping and throw my tonneau cover when I think I might need the open air room.
Hey Average Joe - I picked mine up used for $350. I pulled all the windows and had a friend at a body shop spray it for $300. (Was dark green, I have a white truck) $10 for a roll of tape to put the windows back in and I was good to go.

Thanks B&W. I do have a drop in liner (installed by previous owner). The cap sits on a double layer of seating tape. I hope it doesn't make any contact with the paint. I'm thinking that if anything causes issues, it would be that liner, where it contacts the top edges of the bed. I would much rather have the bedrug. Maybe next year I'll have the liner removed and get that. Sweet deal you got on the preowned pricing. Why does the Leer dealer make its customers sign a release when purchasing the comparable model?

I've looked and looked for a cap but a 8foot cap used to fit a f150 seems impossible to find .

1MT - Evidently have a lot of issues with leaking. Reccomended either a 100XL or a Jerraco CX. A lot of past posts on here were positive on the A.R.E. Z. I also heard Snug Tops are good but there mainly west coast.

Average Joe - yeah, I looked for about 6 months before I found mine on Ebay. Searched there alot and googled F150 cap for sale & F150 topper for sale. Saw some nice ones but distance was too far on some. Almost had it for $285 but someone tried to outbid me in the last minute. Had to make a 2 1/2 hour drive out to Hanover to pick it up but felt it was worth it. Sellers pictures were very detailed. It was from a used car lot that didn't like to sell there trucks with a cap on it. I've heard this alot. Tried to stay within a three hour drive. If I see any thing around here I'll let you know.

Great looking cap! Did/does you truck have the plastic bedrails on the sides? Are they removed to install the cap? I have an 08 stone green supercrew with the plastic bedrails. I have a spray on liner that goes up and over the front rail. I would like to get a cap for my truck and love the looks and fit of yours. I am just curious to how they are installed. Thanks.

Thanks CJB. The bed does have a drop in liner that was not cut or altered for this cap install. The cap sits down on top of the bedrails(the top of the liner), and is designed to overhang the bed just enough that it hides the liner. Looking at it, you can't see the liner at all. I just let the ARE dealer install it, which was included in the price. It took about 1/2 hour while I waited.
