Hard top question

Nearly all of my day to day needs would be met with a hard top cover, especially the locking aspects of them. I'm a medical sales rep and I often times carry expensive equipment in my truck that needs to be locked. Not to mention my golf clubs.

My question is, how difficult is it to remove when (if) you need to haul oversized items like furniture or other bulky items? I don't expect it to be a two minute job, but I'd like to know that I can get the hard top off if I need to make a mega run to the dump or what not.

I have a lift (pulleys) rigged in the garage, loosen and lift in / at four corners

normally you need 2 people to lift and set and about 20 minutes max to alaign and clamp down

I need only myself and about 15-20 minutes with the pulleys max.

there might be an outside chance that the foam could be damaged but not much

when installed I had to keep the installer from using tape that was sticky on both sides, I think the businees plan was to make customer come back for more foam.

I have since found out that the shop where the lid was sold and installed was doing the jobs incorrectly, you are suppose to be able to remove them with out too much trouble

mine has been off about 20 times in the last 20 months

I have had patch the foam insulation 3 times, 1st 2 were my fault, 3rd was a brother that got in a hurry

do not let the foam seal scare you it keeps the rain out, padds the truck from the shell and acts as a cushion for frame

since you are moving medical equipment, they do make roll out trays for trucks, joey bed is one and anoter is extando bed both roll out.

there are times I am tempted to get one, easler than climbing up in back.

I would mount it in the bed with some pins lynch type so it could be removed

just a thought

You need a lift to remove an ARE style cover? Are you talking about a full size canopy or a hard tonneau?

I don't know of any cap tape that is sticky on both sides. It is supposed to be put on the top or cover and not on the truck bed. It will seal itself to the bed and you have to break it loose to get the top or cover off. Not saying there isn't some cap tape out there somewhere that is 2-sided but most likely it is just the nature of the tape to make a good seal or being installed wrong.

As for the original question the ARE cover can be removed in a matter of 5-10 minutes but you will need someone to help or some sort of lifting device.

I do not think that the tape was double sided cap tape, it looked like a double sided a/c or similiar tape

I knew that the double sided tape was wrong and I stopped him

I knew the top would have to come off

the installer had no problem getting one sided tape, he had 3-4 cases of the right tape on the shelf

After the post this morning I had to pick up a washer and dryer, the removal took all of 5 minutes

reinstall all of 10 minutes, it set in place perfectly the first time.

today was a ho;iday for me

Don't know why they would want to use something like that over the standard cap tape when they have the right stuff there.

I got a advanced cover for mine and It is ok. It folds back so you can use 3/4 of the bed when you need more height. I sell medical implants also (orthopedic) and I got it because it locked and was fairly water resistant. well over time it is less water resistant. I am looking at the undercover type covers now. It's light enough for one person to remove. The fiber glass ones are kind of heavy. my opinion.

what about something like this:
http://www.truckaccessorizer.com/sto...ack_rabbit.htm

it locks, is metal, and can be easily rolled up to the front of the bed in seconds. allows you to lock valuable stuff, or transport big stuff with only about a minute of transfer time.

only negitive is the price, but fiberglass tonneaus aren't cheap either.
IMO this is what i would get
