I am with the Beast......IMO...the ARE LSll series is the best on the market for around $1k...they have the best locking devise, have a gasket that seals your bed from water/dust, the header inside is a perfect match to the bed rug and the shape/design echos the front hood....color matched perfectly to your truck's color code.....again the best in the market....I've had them on all of my trucks for 10 years....and never had one fail....good luck...

The Snugtop snuglid has been awesome for me. Flawless performance. Very low profile.

i just bought a used 03 with an A.R.E. It looks to be made very well. I just wish it was lower profile for visibility out the back window. They look very sharp though

Good looking truck.

The one on this one is an LSII all the ARE covers now come with the Fossliner interior that makes a huge difference in the overall appearance of the cover, yours also has the old clamp and base rail system. These work great but the new upgrades they have implemented with the new clamps and baserails and interior liner makes a world of difference in these covers.

I want to get an ARE cover but am having a hard time trying to choose between the LSX and the LSII...what are the pros/cons for each? Is one better than the other? What are the main differences beside the price?

Thanks guys for the help! (Just want to say that I have enjoyed viewing all the threads in this great forum. Everyone is so helpful, so I appreciate all the Ford owners out there giving their advice!)

that snugtop looks just like the ******* covers but with a different hinge. i like the look of the x2000 hinge because its not part of the seal. i just wonder how those lock cylinders work in the winter???

If your working on a Ford then the LSX is the only way to go. The fit on it is miles ahead of any other cover. If you notice earlier in this thread I pointed out on the Leer how it doesn't fit snuggly to the bedcaps and there is a small gap especially in the front corners. ARE eliminates all the gaps and the LSX fits tight to the bedcaps all the way around with their new X-brace hinge that rotates the cover up and away from the bed as you raise it. This is the main selling point of the LSX and for only $100 more it is easily worth it, all my Ford customers that I show the difference to agree and go with the LSX, unless it is just one of those people that all they care about is price and want whatever they can find the cheapest dam the after effects.

Thanks Beast for the good advice. I will stick with an ARE LSX for my SCREW. Too bad you aren't closer to the Raleigh,NC area, I would have to come to your shop and get both the LSX and the DualLiner. Thanks again for the info.

the LSX has the ugly hump in the middle (imho). weighs 120lbs, and is not a lo-profile cover like the snugtop/*******.

i don't know which one mine is, but it has a hump in the middle. that's where i lose some visibility backing up. I think I'll get used to it though. That little hump gives you a tad more height for cargo which is cool.

the spots in the bed are dirt = no rust, so I would have to say it seals good.

the beast - do you know where I can get instructions on how to remove the tonneau? I'm sure we'll have tall cargo to haul occasionally.

thx!

I have a ******** cover. I got it color matched for my truck (06 6.5ft bed dark pearl metallic) off ebay for $300 cause it had a 2in scratch on it. i was really lucky cause the guy was actually local. I love my ******** cover. The lines are great my only complaint is that it has two locks on it, rather than one central handle. Its a pain in the a$$ when your in a rush but it looks very nice.

BTW, Its not in my sig cause i just got it.

neilh31........Yeah Raleigh is a bit of a haul from here about 6 hours.

homesteader.......to take the cover off all you need is a 9/16 wrench or socket/ratchet to loosen the bolt on the clamp and the whole thing comes off as a complete assembly. The ARE base rail isn't designed to seperate from the base rails, covers that do this have problem with the attachment points and wear at these points and shift from side to side to much.

The hump you all are reffering to is the design feature built into the truck. Look at your hood and you will see what I mean. The ARE cover is designed to match the hood lines of the truck. It really doesn't affect vision that much, most likely you are just used to not having any type of cover and only seeing a tailgate when you look back. Just adjust your rearview mirror to have the bottom of the mirror right at the top edge of the cover like you did with the tailgate and you won't even notice it.

thx beast! I've only backed out of the driveway a few times (tight narrow one with 3 vehicles ), but I'm sure I'll get used to it. It really does look sharp on the truck.

thx for the info how to get it off. I'll tell my husband how to do it.

I have an A.R.E. cover as well and on mine, to make it easier to put it back on, before you take it off mark around the rails where they line up on top of the bed so when you put it back it will have the same fit every time. I'm not sure if the new covers are mounted the same way but thats how mine works.
