bed rug pros/cons??

Has anyone had any experience with the BED RUG for the bed of your trucks?

I can't decide which is the better way to go....BED RUG or SPRAY IN? I've had spray ins before and over time they tend to fade (which ends up not looking to good)

Thanks in advance for your replies....

John

I absolutely love my Bedrug. They great thing is that it can come out if you ever need to take it out. Can't do that with Line-X The Bedrug is also easy to clean and easy on your knees. Really makes your truck look nice!

I had a Bedrug in a Ranger a few years ago. It was great for what we used it for. You can crawl around on your knees in the bed, sleep there if you plan to camp, and our dogs appreciated it when it was cold. Since we never did the type of cargo hauling that would have possibly damaged it we were quite happy with it. Depending on your normal use, its a great product.

That makes me feel good as I have one on the way and it will mostly be used for light duty action.

Got a question:

I've got a bed liner... and I use that for the extra heavy duty dirty stuff (like right now I am filling my bed up with snow and transporting it a few hundred feet away and then dumping it out.) that a bed rug wouldn't be good for.

So my question is, could I still get a bed rug and put it in my bed, over the plastic bed liner? I've never seen one before.... but from the sound of what you fellows are talking about, they sound really good!

As long as you don't haul hay, you'll love it. The hay straws stick to the rug.

Thanks fellas....I after reading your entries I am defintely now leaning towards the bedrug. The only things I'll ever haul in the bed of my rig is a dirt bike and a 75lb dog (usually not at the same time). So I think I'll end up going with the BEDRUG. I wonder how it stands up to snow though?? I live in Montana and we get our fair share of the white stuff.

Man remove that cheap plastic liner (that will eventually trap moisture lead to corrosion) and lay down that sweet lookin BedRug...or just get the bed "sprayed".

I'd remove it, but I typically carry bad loads... concrete, scrap metal, rocks, sand, dirt, trees, lawn mowers, and other things that would put dents in my bed. I never had a problem with rust in my '99 with the plastic bed liner... but I removed it and cleaned the stuff out underneath it once a year. Kept the bed looking like new! I even tested it out one day by getting pick axe and whacking the bed a few times trying to find gold! No dents!

hey everyone,

i'm also considering a bedrug or spray in bed liner.
the big difference it seems from you guys is that my truck is no where near new. it dosent have any liner in it and the bed has been used. there are slight scratches but nothing that resembles rust. would it be ok to just put the bedrug in the bed even though the truck isnt new, or would rusting occur under the rug since there are already scratches and stuff. This is the second F150 i've owned, my first one was totaled but had a liner in it so i'm new to the spray in liner or bed-rug options.
thanks for your help and opinions!

also, are spray in liners expensive or does it vary from dealer to dealer that installs them?

John

I just installed my Bedrug. So far I love it. I'll add two notes on the installation process:

1) Rub away from the corners or edges toward the adhesive when getting it to stick for the first time. This will help remove any "bubbles" or bulges from the liner.

2) DON'T let the hook and loop stick to the Bedrug! It will pull the fibers up slightly and they can be seen.

Hi John,

As far as you installing a bedrug on top of current rusting metal...hymmm....from my point of view, since the bedrug material is not made of any type of metal then there therorectically shouldn't be additional corrosion between the bedrug and your bed. If you decide on the bedrug then I would recommend you get the existing corrosion treated (either do it yourself or get a local body shop to do it) and THEN laying down a sweet looking bedrug. However if you DO end up going with the bedrug I would defintely get the existing rust taken care of because rust will ALWAYS continue to eat away at your rig if no steps are taken to remove it. The costs of a sprayed in liner really I think just depends on the dealer that you go with. But most are gonna run ya between 250.00 - 400.00 (depending on the size of your bed of coarse)

BTW - I haven't made up my mind either as to which way to go. I had a sprayed in liner on my previous F-150 and over time it began to fade (which I didn't care for, it looked awesome when it was new). I think I am leaning towards the Bedrug though. (I just wish someone could pass on any experiences they've had with one with regards to snow and other moisture)

Hope my insight helps ya!

John

Any problems with your truck's performance after installing the K&N CAI? Do you have the 4.6 or the 5.4?

I had a bedrug in my F250. I liked everything about it except for two minor concerns. It seemed to stay wet a while after a rain, I don't know if this could be concern for mold or something else at a later time. Also, at the hinge point of where the tailgate meets the bed, it would freeze in the winter. Not to bad, except when I would go to shut it, it would force the hinge off of one side and I slammed the pin on the bed just below the latching mechanism on the tailgate and had to get it replaced. Other than that, I loved it.

I have bed rug in my truck with a tonneua cover, so i would go with the bed rug if you have an enclosed bed, but if its a wide open not covered bed than go with the spray bedliner.
