Couple of spray-in questions...

I definitely want to get a nice spray-in liner for my '06 SCREW, but have a couple of questions first. I would certainly discuss my concerns with the installer, but figured more opinions are always good! Here we go:

- I use my bed a fair amount and it is already getting scratched up and wearing through the paint in a few places. My thought is not to worry about it, as the spray-in liner will eventually cover it all anyway. So, if I put the liner off for a year or so, it won't matter in the long run. Am I correct on this, or will the shop have to fix the paint damage first? I'm assuming the liner will act as a primer and rust preventative for the exposed bare metal.

- I assume the liner will block the drains, so water will stand in the bed? Any way to work around this?

- I also plan to purchase a nice, heavy dog box for the truck in the next couple of years also. It'll be metal, and about 48"w and 36" or so deep. I figure it will be about 150-200lbs empty, plus another hundred pounds of dogs. It'll stay in the bed for several months of the year. I'm afraid it will wear through the liner where it contacts the bed, especially driving a lot on rough roads. Maybe if I bought a rubber mat to put underneath it? Is this a valid concern? I'm thinking of a box like this:

Thanks for the input!

I had Rhinoliner sprayed in a couple months ago, and I've been moderately impressed. The only reason I'm not totally impressed is because the shop where I had it done didn't seem to spend enough time on the details. E.g., the lining on the tailgate is a bit too thick and isn't tapered towards the top. To answer your specific concerns...

1. All you really need to worry about is rust. I rushed to have my new truck sprayed within a couple weeks of getting it, but learning how the installers scuff it up before they install anyway, I could have gone quite some time before being worried about it. As long as there's no rust or structural damage, I wouldn't worry about the wear on the finish before you get it sprayed.

2. Some installers will try to keep the front drains clear. My installer did not, and I always gather water on the incline where I park. But Fords drain so well from the rear that I don't consider it an issue.

3. I doubt that dog box would even worry Rhinolining or Line-X. In the unlikely event that it did ever cause some damage, go back with your Lifetime warranty and have it repaired for free.

I have a Permatech liner, and when i had it put in i requested they take out the bed bolts and drain covers, and hooks so none of it got sprayed. Mine is colormatched (red) and it has scratched up pretty good from all the stuff i have had back there. After a wash though none of the scratches are as bad. You wont have to fix the paint, mine was scratched up and junk, i wouldnt worry about it. I beleive they sand it or something to remove the clearcoat so it will stick better (i could be wrong though)

Good Luck

Sand or scuff. Nothing will attach to the clear totally. Eventually it'll come off, tomorrow or in a week.
