Hi! I was wondering if someone here has ever sprayed on their own bedliner? If so, what product would you recommend, and do you just shoot it on with a normal paint gun?

We have a Dupont/3M auto supply store in town.

I could obviously take it to a body shop and have them do it, but what fun would that be? I'd like the satisfaction of doing it myself, and saving a little money at the same time. Heck, I might even do my dad's pickup for him too!

Heculiner has a do it yourself kit, but that is more of a roll/brush on. For the spray on liners you need special spray guns etc. It's not something you can use a regulat spray gun on.

I started doing the Dupli-color with aresol cans but only did the tail gate but it came out really nice. Stopped because I decided to go with a bed rug. The Dupli-color web site sells a spray gun that shoots the bedliner for not a lot of money and all the accesories.

The biggest issue would be getting enough material build up. Think about spraying paint, then look at the thickness of a spray-in. No comparison.

Also, prep is key to any spray application. Be careful in prep or it will simply peel off.

That was my problem with the spray cans, it wasnt thick enough. After 3-4 coats it was only 1/8 thick. But if you buy there gun you can get it to lay on thicker. Sanding is a pain but prep and taping off took most of the time.

There is information about spraying Herculiner on their website. The "special" gun is an undercoating spray gun. The Eastwood Company sells them for like $20.
