Believe it or not, I did try to search it. Just couldn't seem to narrow it well.

The more I think about it, the more I think you're right. There's really not an advantage to it short of being able to hit the remote and have them come on...

A switch would be more secure and easier to do anyway... I doubt I go with a normally open twig. I'll just go with a straight rocker.

So, now... mounting. Are you going to go with double sided tape of some sort or use something that they offer to mount them? Any thoughts?

I plan on 3M double stick tape (the good stuff). Hell, that stuff holds on fender flares, window shades, etc... should be good enough for some measly rope light.

Anywho, I'm going to tape this under the rail: https://ssl.adhost.com/noveltylights...pid=261&step=4 For $2.50/4ft, how can you go wrong?

I was going to buy two 5 or 6 foot lengths to run on either side and wire the together. I can conseal the wire behind my Bedrug.

How about your switch? I was thinking that a nice touch would be to use something like the under-hood light switch and mount it inside the tailgate so the lights come on when you open the tailgate.

I'm going to use a pin switch... location to be determined. With the undercover, you must open it before the tailgate can be opened, so a pin switch on the bedrail will be perfect.

Dang. Reading this I got all excited about rigging the rope lights in my bed, but they don't have green (even though it shows them in the picture).

Oh well, I am thinking about just a couple of small lights under the lip on either side...

Still not sure.

I think I will wire mine to a small switch behind my seat.

This is a great idea...Think I'm going to give it a try. Soon as I figure out how to get power to them and hook up a switch so when I open my undercover they come on I'm set.

If I were to wire them to the rear lights power would that be too much on the fuse for those lights?

OK - Please don't laugh

I have a toneau cover and have the same problem.

Went to Wally World and bought two battery closet lights with rocker switches. Mounted thim on each side just inside the bed with 3M tape. Works like a charm and AA's are only about 40 cents each. The closet lights are oblong shape and came 2 to a pack for less than $5.

I guess I am a cheapskate but I sure can see in the bed in the dark.

Not again!!!

Here we go again...just when I think I think I've got my S-crew all set up with the nifty little mods, here comes RockPick with another great idea. SHEESH!

It sure would be nice if you could tap into the wiring for the that's already back near the tailgate for power. Running power all the way from the battery seems like a lot of wire.
Do you think the ropelight will provide enough light? I wonder if some sort of LED application would work? I imagine they'd be more expensive. That 12V rope light is a great bargain.

I don't have a hardtop tonneau, and I occasionally haul stuff in my bed with the tailgate open, do a on/off switch would be the best plan for me.

DANG....more $$$. It's all RockPicks fault!!!!!

I will soon be doing the same RP. My plan of attack is to mount a hot rocker or push-button switch to either the L-bracket that the cover locks to, or a separate bracket. I will not be tapping into the interior light circuit. I want the bed lights to be on or off at the flick of a switch, not having to rely on me having my keys at the time, but I will most likely wire it through a pin switch like closer9 did, to save the battery in case I brain fart.

I will be using the track mountable lights fed by hot, fused 14 GA leads straight from the battery, run down the frame and covered in either tar coated loom or plastic split loom, all the way to the tailgate hinge area. The wires will get tucked behind the Bedrug, with only a couple inches (at most) of exposed wiring near the switch(es). I will be using either something from E switches or Oslo. Thought about putting light at the front of the bed, but I think a string on both sides will be more than enough.

All I need now is weather that doesn't suck.

Pics would be nice of the wiring to give me an idea. I think I'm leaning back toward a switch because I do haul as well and I don't want the lights on when the lid is off.

How possible would it be to tie in to the hot wire from the towing package? That wire is already at the back of the truck and would save from running wire direct from the battery.
