Herculiner

Here is the deal. I have a Line-X dealer local but they want $500. I am seriously contemplating going with Herculiner. I have done the searches and know that Line-X is a much better product, the funds just aren't available. I would like to hear from people that have ACTUALLY used Herculiner and get their input.

I.E....
How much prep time did you put into your truck before applying Herculiner?

Did you have a problem with it chipping and peeling from LIGHT use (I understand heavy use will mess it up)?

How long did the color last before fading was obvious?

Were you satisfied with the end result? and why?

Those are just a few I can think of. Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard W8-4-ME...I have used Herculiner in four of my trucks, as well as two others for relatives. I have NEVER had any problems with it peeling etc. If you take your time with the prep, scuff it up very well, and use Acetone to get rid of any oil/grease stains, you shouldn't have any trouble. For the $$$, it can't be beat! I'd recommend taking the tailgate panel off and doing it separate, otherwise you'd need a hammer & chisel to access it if needed. I've used my truck(s) for everything, adn have only scratched it up once, but, it can be repaired VERY easily. With the UV protectant they now have, fading isn't a big problem.
With a full size bed, it should probably take you a couple hours for prep, depending if you tape off areas, etc. Whenever I've done a truck, I've always used up the entire gallon, as it will dry and be hard as a rock in the can. So I put an extra coat on the "heavy use" areas. If you're lucky, you can find it on sale also, I've done two trucks for $79.99, and one for $59.99, (after a rebate!)
Another bonus is the larger rubber granules that give better traction than Rhino etc. (another tip, keep it stirred up!)
Good Luck, just take your time

I take it one gallon is enough to do a short bed. I pretty much figured that prep time was a major factor with how happy people were. Thanks guys.

I did my old 97 f150 sb with it. I did it in 2000. It faded a little after a few months. It took my dad and I several hours to clean, scuff, and clean. Masking is a good idea too. At the time I did it you got a free quart with the gallon kit. I used the whole gallon. I got multiple coats on the floor of the bed. Dollar for dollar its great for lighter use.
