Question Truck Bed: Is it clear-coated?

I want to use "liquid sandpaper" on my truck bed, however I was told that the liquid sandpaper would not work on clear-coated beds. Does anyone know whether the 2000 F-150 has clearcoat on the bed surface? I want to prep the bed for Herculiner. If it isn't clearcoated, I will use the liquid sandpaper to degloss bed prior to applying bedliner.

thanks, Jeff

Jeff,

YES...your truck bed is clear coated. As labor intensive as it may sound, scuffing it w/some 100 grit sand paper or scotchbrite pad is still the quickest and easiest way to prep the surface. If you lightly scuff it and wash it down with denatured alcohol, you should be all right!

Good Luck!

3rdRock:

I appreciate the info. I guess I was considering compromising a good prep job for time saved. BTW, do you know if I can apply several coats of Herculiner to provide a thicker finish?

OE812,

You can apply several light coats of herculiner. I did the entire surface and then went back and applied a second and third coat to high traffic/ use areas such as the tailgate. I also took the tailgate access panel off of the truck and did it seperately in case I ever need to change the handle or lock.

Spyder207:

Thanks for the info. Your reference to Luling reminds me of when I go on vacation with my family to Disneyworld during Mardi Gras...I just can't get away from the locals!

Nice hearing from ya,

Jeff
