sludge resistant coating??? Maybe in the newer ones but I can tell you mine(2000) was caked with sludge!

 

a lot of good their 'sludge resistant coating' did. HA! My throttle body ports were plugged closed the first time I cleaned mine. Ford suggests to use only 'throttle body cleaner' when doing the thottle body so that the protective coating will not be removed.
I used like 4 cans of carb cleaner and a parts washer the 3 times Ive done mine

 

I got a new throttle body pic in my gallery with that anti-sludge coating stuff on it. If I ever end up using it , the first thing I will do is stick a wire wheel in there and remove it. Then polish it - they stay cleaner longer without it. If you don't maintain your vehicle well - then leave it in..It keeps your Throttle Plate from getting gummed up - Well, that's the intention.

 

yeah it is supposed to be on there, but it works about as good as a one legged man in an *** kicking contest. i cleaned mine on my 97 and i could tell a big differance at stoplights and cold starts especially.

Guys, im about to clean the ISC, EGR and throttle body assembly, can you reuse the existing gaskets or need new ones?

I used to work for a company that sold this sort of product and service, we cleaned off the coatings every time and got great results. The protective coating does no good once it is sludged up.
BTW if you can find a place that does BG products that's who I was with, it REALLY works. Takes under an our and costs probably $129. I cleans the intake, throttle body, plenum, rail, injectors, fuel pump and delivery system, combustion chambers, valves, and also improves catalyst efficiency. Not only do you get a clean TB you get more power because the combustion chambers are de-carb'ed. This brings your compression back down where it belongs. This in turn allows complete combustion by removing the preignition that occurs if the combustion chambers are gunked. In dirty engines when this occurs the knock sensor pulls back the timing which slows you down and wastes gas.

I just cleaned my TB and I did not remove it fromt he engine. I dont notice anything in change? Would it be better if i took it off to clean it or does it really not matter?

Cleanining the TB involves removing the plenum - it's all here in the stickies - links as well . - just look and read.

 

My local Ford Dealership ran a Special on injector, throttle bottle, cylinder clean out for $57.45. Although I did not need it with my low mileage on my '04 RCab, 5.4, I was first in line. Could not do this at home as good as the Dealership nor in the one hour they had my rig, plus shuttle service.

But those of you who did the throttle bottle clean up and posted pictures it is a great help to those who really want to know how the throttle body plays into the air intake of an engine.

anyone know the procedure for a 91 f150 intake cleaning? its in the tranny shop right now. BUT you know what, it was neglected like crazy before i bought it and im cleaning (no pun intended) up after them. any advice/information would greatly be appreciated
