Nice to see you guys tearing up your brand new F150s and modding them!

As for the running light and signal mod i think i can help. It shouldnt take more than two small relays in each side and one wire ran from each signal (at the column) down to the door to the corresponding mirror on each side. Ill work on the wiring if anyone is really interested.
The thing is though that they wont blink in unison with the regular blinkers.
The blinker will blink, then when it goes out the mirror will blink (on the modded reflector part only) then signals will blink etc.. Your new LEDs will be staggered from the regular blinkers.

Cool mod you guys did though.
and just FYI an amber light will shine just as much as a white light, the amber one will just be more efficient.
The white one will be filtered so only the amber light shines thru the reflector
whereas the amber one will put out nearly 100% of its emitted light.
The thing is white is much brighter than the amber so what is blocked and put out is nearly identical to the amber to the human eye; its nearly impossible to tell.
It doesnt really matter though, so whatever color makes you feel better will work as long as the white isnt too blue. It has to be close to true white.

I did my bed like this already and there have been a few 04-08 guys that did this.
Mine has a switch that when turned on it makes the lights in the bed light and when off the lights just work with the cargo lamps.
Remember old mods still work on your fancy new trucks, all yall have different is front ends and nice interior luxuries lol. And different wiring colors perhaps but 12v is 12v whether its a 1970s car or a 2010 truck.

Hey guys... nice job on this mod... I have an '01, so this was pure informational for me, but I've been thinking of doing a bed light powered off of the cargo light for some time... I've been getting good ideas from http://hacknmod.com it's a great site for people who like to tinker with things and they also have a LED stor on there for buying individual bulbs and batteries and also I think you can buy EL wire (Electroluminescent wire) on there... very cool what you can do with it.

Maybe someone could help me answer a question.

We just bought a 2010 F150 and when I was looking at the truck I thought that it was pretty cool that an XLT came with blinkers in the mirrors. I didn't realize that they were just reflectors until coming across this thread. This morning I decided to tear the mirrors apart and take care of the job. I had both mirrors apart when my wife stepped into the garage with a look of terror like our truck was completely ruined. I explained to her what I was doing when she asked me a question I couldn't answer, and I suspect not many of you could answer either. She asked, "Why can't you just leave good enough alone? Our truck is barely a week old and you have it all tore apart!" My wife is wonderful so it wasn't asked in a nagging sort of way, but I just stood there trying to come up with a good reason why I always have to be tinkering with our vehicles. Maybe someone can give me a good answer that I can come back at her with the next time I'm tearing the truck apart.

Anyhow, the blinkers look great, even my wife thinks they look pretty good. What a quick and easy way to bring a little more style to the 150's.

Well, Thomas Edison had a house with candle light, just like everyone else at the time and I think his tinkering has worked out pretty well for everyone... haha

I think you should just tell her it's in our DNA. It's what guys must do. Most women buy shoes, purses, clothes, jewlery, etc..... We buy trucks and mod them.

Went by autozone and picked up the led strips this afternoon. A few things about the mod that will make it easy on everybody and no mirrors removed and no disassembly of the mirrors.

1. remove the two reflectors. remove from the outer edge of the reflector so you don't break it...take your time.
2. cut out the white area as instructed before with a dremmel tool on both reflectors
3. Cut the strips to 9 LEDs and leave enough of the red and black cables to fish through the holes that hold the reflector on (there's enough room for the wires and to replace the reflector)
4. Pop off the cap under the mirror. The green with white stripe wire and the black wire are right there and you can bring them out of the hole.
5. Splice the red wire to the green and the black to the black with wire splicers

6. replace the reflectors after you have tested the power to the strips.

Your done.

You don't need to remove the mirrors to do this, just replace the caps on the bottom and your finished. Was really easy and no fear of breaking something in the mirror.

Thanks for your help in all the previous work and advice

Dude you are freaking awesome. I can't believe I didn't see that this whole time. That's the way to take a great thing and make it better.

a screw driver. They snap in at the outer edge of the mirror (curved area). The do no snap in at the inner edge towards the vehicle. There, they have plastic prongs that insert into holes and they can break. Just start on the outer edge where they snap in. If you do break them, they are cheap to replace from what I've seen from other. Just pry a little at a time and don't force it.

you can see the tab is shorter on the left side of the picture and longer on the right. Picture borrowed from page one.

I would like to do this project also. I have a 2010 XT without the reflectors or the turn signals below the mirror. I bought oem parts for the turn signals but accidentally bought replacement black fillers instead of the reflectors. (Luckily they were on about $7 each.)

Could someone please post the part numbers of the reflectors?

Also, does anyone know if the wiring harness will have the wires there for the turn signals or am I going to have to run one?

BTW, is it very hard to get the mirrors to snap back on?

Thanks from a new member!
