Just an update, my trans temps are about 30 degrees lower across the board as reported by my Scangauge.

Towed my boat up from Florida back in May and in stop & go traffic on a day with 99 degree air temp, the trans temp never got over 170 towing about 6100 plus the stuff in the bed.

Excellent mod!
I used the -BA cooler from a 7.3L PSD. The V-10 -CA cooler should be even cooler.

I have a couple of questions about the filters though.
I used the NAPA filter that the author used, but is a Motorcraft FL-1A acceptable for use as a transmission filter?
It will fit on the mount, and I have a few of them left since I got rid of my 91 F250 and I have nothing else now that uses that filter.

Also how often do you guys change the filter?

I'm late to the party, but love this idea! Good question about how often to change filter. I'd probably go about 7 - 8,000 miles. Or just every oil change?

I change my trans fluid every 30k miles.
I have changed the filter at 15K since I upgraded the setup and have had no issues.

I did ask the mechanic I use for the stuff I can't or don't want to wrench myself and he said I shouldn't need to change it between fluid changes.
I've just changed it at the oil change nearest to 15K miles, it only takes a minute and about a 1/2 quart of trans fluid to fill the new filter.

I love this mod and have started to collect the parts needed to do to my 2002 F150 FX4

I will be towing a 25 foot Airstream with a max weight of 7000 lbs

Found a low mileage used V10 trans oil cooler on eBay for $121 shipped. Currently on its way to me.

Put together the following lists of additional parts needed based on the op

All from Summit Racing:

1 Perm-Cool filter mount PRWAM 1211 @ $17.48
2 Russell Hose end Rus 610020 @ $7.97 ea = $15.94
1 Russell 45 deg hose end Rus 610090@ $15.97
2 Russell 90 deg hose ends Rus 610160 @ $14.97 each = $29.94
2 Russell 3/8 tube to -6AN Rus 639210 @ $10.97 ea = $21.94
2 Russell -6An to 5/8-18 inv flare Rus 640380 @ $5.97 ea = $11.94
2 Russell -6An Male to !/2" NPT Rus 640380 @ $9.97 ea = $19.94
1 6FT -6AN Braided hose Summit Sum 230606 @ $26.97

Total of additional parts = $160.12

As I have not tore into this project yet, I am thinking of trying to rig the system so that I can leave the original oil cooler in place and run the two coolers in tandem. So the parts list may change. Will post updates.

Thank You SWThomas for the original post.

Holy thread resurrection, I know!!

Just curious as to if the last post with the additional parts listed is a complete list as I am going to be doing this soon.

Thanks....hopefully the OP is still active

Done

Yes list is complete EXCEPT for NAPA filter 1622 and Mercon V
I also have a LPW finned Aluminum pan with a Sunpro temp gauge.
I plumbed the new cooler in tandem with my existing tow package cooler. Had to mount the remote oil filter to the outside of the frame.

My install went real well and I am very happy with the results.

Fluid

Do you by chance remember about how much fluid you needed to add after install?
