4.6 to 5.4 Swap Notes
i have a question my buddy did the engine swap got the 5.4 out of a 98 expedition and put it into his 97 f150 put it to coil packs instead of the coil on plug motor ran fine but blew tranys so we put the E4OD in it bolted up fine had to make a new crossmember and driveshaft but is in fine now the harness is where were missing something.
the harness for the pcm out of the expedition plugs right in to the old one but when started the truck shifts fine manually but if put in drive it starts in third.
the trouble code pulled is a P0707 trans range sensor malfunction. we chased all the wires from the 4.6 harness to the 5.4 harness all are the same except the trs plug and speed sensor plug there is also 4 extra wires on the 5.4 harness we dont know where they go or what pin they belong in any help is greatly appreciated.

JMC, I am also thinking of doing the 5.4 swap. Your sig says that you have the M5OD so i was curious if that bolted right up or did you have to use an adapter plate to make it work? Also i thought the M5OD was only a 2wd trans? Could anyone clear that up for me. Thanks for any help
There are 4 versions of the M5OD-R2.
1) 4.2 V6 4x2
2) 4.2 V6 4x4
3) 4.6 V8 4x2
4) 4.6 V8 4x4
All the 4.6 and 5.4 blocks have the same bell housing bolt configuration. The 4.2 is different.

I was sent here by some guys from another forum. I understand that the 99 5.4 is by far the most solid engine to use. My question is what would it take to swap it into a 2003 F150 FX4? The truck presently is running the 4.6 windsor thats on its last leg. All I know about the engine is it is running COD ignition. Is the 99 COD or coil pack?
Thanks in advance.

Swap issues
I just did a 5.4 swap into a 97 f-150, using an engine from a 2000 e-150 van. I have everything hooked up but the exhaust. But it cranks but doesn't start. I have spark out of the 4.6 coil packs but it still doesn't start. I used the 4.6 harness and the 5.4 computer. should I use the 4.6 computer? Its been an interesting swap since the exhaust manifold and egr tube and throttle body housing is different from a van to a truck. Once that was sorted out now it won't start. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Use the 4.6 PCM. The 5.4 uses PATS and I am sure the Connector Pin Outs are the different. The 5.4 uses COP Ignition and your 4.6 uses coil pack. Click on the link to my notes at the bottom of my sig.
