HELP! Dash Surround. Please...

I am trying to take off my dash in order to get to my dash cluster but I am having a bit of a problem. I am unable to take off the dash piece that goes around the guage clusters.

I think this is because I am supposed to take off the headlight switch somehow... Does anyone know how? I have a 1998. I am able to turn the light switch to the "on" position and pull up, however it only pulls up to the fog light position. Does anyone have any ideas?

I dont want to break anything at all. So I will wait for your guys reply.

Thanks for saving me once again in advance!

1. Turn headlight switch all the way to the right.

*** Removal of this piece requires that the switch be rotated past its natural stop position.

2. Remove & reinstall the **** up side down and continue to turn to the right. The switch will disengage

I think that is how it works on a 98.
On my 2000 I did not need to remove the **** at all. The whole switch housing pops out with a little prying with a screw driver. Check your switch and see if you have a same slot on the bottom, if so pop it out with the screw driver method.

No screw driver method..

My year does not have the screw driver method... I am kind of leary of turning it past its normal stop position. I defiantly do not want to break the switch!

Have you done this personally?

Sorry, im just scared of breaking anything.

I have not done the first method. I got those directions from
tampasvt@tampabay.rr.com when I purchased my carbon fiber dash from him. You can email him for more info on this. Rich is a nice guy and I am sure he will help you.

Had the cluster out of my 97 recently, 97-8 are identical...

What I did was to pull the L side of the large cover. With it out slightly, I inserted a screwdriver to push in & disengage the lever that holds the switch in. Popped right out, giving access to the screw below it. Now that I think about it, a putty knife would've worked easier than the screwdriver!
