Talking Instrument panel mods

Just picked up my 2001 XLT SCREW a couple of weeks ago and am ready to start customizing . I picked up an Indiglo gauge kit via Ebay and I'm thinking of going with the carbon fiber gauge bezel as well (since I'll have the instrument cluster apart anyway). Anyone have opinions/suggestions on my weekend project? I'd particularly be interested in anyone who bought a set of the Indiglo Gauges from ProCarParts.com (quality of the kit, ease of installation, etc.). Also, please let me know if you've tried to install the carbon fiber bezel over a Indiglo kit. I'd hate to buy the whole setup if the carbon fiber bezel won't work with the Indiglo. Thanks in advance for your time!

If the carbon fiber overlay is made by APC, save your money! I had a hell of a time getting it to fit to begin with, it has rounded edges and it would bow up when you tried to put the surrounding trim piece back on. Once I got the trimming done, the white from the guages would show through around the outside. There is no room for the shift indicator to fit back onto the guage face, it had to be trimmed there as well. I could go on, but I'll end my review with the fact that the overlay would pull the indiglos up and stop the needles. Sheez, what a waste,LMAO. Since then I have bought a billet overlay and painted it black, no more problems. If you must have carbon fiber, there is a website called tapeworks that has a product you can use. It's an adhesive film with a CF look to it, and you can put that over a billet overlay. Good luck with the install, I love mine now!,,,,98

Just thought of one problem with the Indiglos, which depends on if they have changed the F-150 cluster or not.. Where the wire comes off the guages, I had to cut a hole for the connection to go through. They made the wire come off the guages, right into a piece of the cluster. I could not see any way to bend the connection without breaking it. I ended up cutting a hole for it to fit correctly. Sorry I was so long winded on this post, didn't want to see anyone else having to trash a $40 to $50 overlay

Thanks for the tips 98. I'll try to find out the brand of the CF piece before I buy. Maybe I'll just go with the billet overlay, where did you pick yours up and for how much??

Thanks again for the advice.

I bought from a friend of mine, he has a small acc. shop here in Houston. I paid $49.95 for a Trenz, but they couldn't get the order right. So, I ended up with an APC piece again. Good thing it fits alot better than their CF piece,,,,98

Sorry I can't help you CASHCOW. I never got mine from the stupid parts place, it's called ProCarParts.com. Was this the same place you got yours from??? If it is, we should post messages in a few places to discourage people from doing business with them. If this is the place you got your stuff from, their number is 626-350-0286. Not sure how much this will help, they never answer the phone and they don't return emails or phone messages.
