Unhappy antanae problem

does anyone know where i can get a really good but shorter antanae than the stock one? My current garage can barely accomodate my truck but the antanae is getting bent all the time. I would like a shorter one but not one thats made of rice.

Hi!

My '98 4X4's radio aerial constantly scraped the roof of the parking structure where I work. Simple solution, I went to my ford dealership and purchased the telescoping antenna that came standard on older Ford Econoline vans. It is a direct replacement part and screws into the stock F-150 antenna base. I can get the Part # if you want, but a competent parts person @ your dealership should be able to find it for you. It costs a whopping $10 bucks! At full length, it's a little shorter than the stocker, but even retracted, still pulls signals well.

Thumbs up

Pull off the little ball with some pliers, cut the antenna with side cutters or hacksaw and stick the ball back on. Spray on a little paint and you're ready to go in and out of the garage w/o scraping.

I did exactly what Lakesands did. You would never know and the antenna is still slightly above the top of the cab.

Cool

I had the same problem at my parking garage. Billet makes several styles of 18" ( I think) antennas. They are not quite as high as the cab. I think I had $28 in it with shipping. I didn't notice any difference in reception.

Radio Shack. Less than $10 and comes with adapters to match the different makes of vehicles.

I use my antenna as a measuring stick for clearance purposes, it's right at 7.0'. So I know if the antenna makes it under, or slightly scrapes, the rest of the cab will be fine! You never know if some of these parking ramps may be marked incorrectly...I'd rather fix a bent antenna then take the truck to a body shop for roof repair.
