Thumbs down Nerf Bar Install

So my new set of DeeZee nerfbars came in the other day.. But before I can install them I need to take off the stamped metal side steps that came on the truck when I bought it used about three months ago.... I break out my ratchet and get ready for the install.. When I try to take off the old steps the bolts are so corroded that they will not budge.. So I WD-40'd these things to death but still no movement.. Does anyone know of any product stronger than WD-40 to take care of rusty bolts.. Thanks

Mike

P.S. Before I start anyone know of any pitfalls on the installation of DeeZee offroad nerf bars?

Thanks

Just get a bigger rachet handle or a piece of pipe that fits over the handle for leverage. You would be surprised what you can break open this way.

PB Blaster! This stuff is awesome. I used it when I installed my body lift to loosen up the bed bolts. It worked like a charm. Spray, let soak for a few and start wrenching.

Good luck!

Liquid Wrench is another fast working penetrating oil.

You should be able to find it at any auto zone, NAPA or automotive store. Just call around and ask if they have some PB Blaster.

Know any one with air tools? That might work, if you dont want to get them cut off. I dont know though. Sounds like you are between a rock and a hard place.

Good luck!!

i agree. i used this when i installed my body lift because since my truck is old, all the bolts and nuts were corroded and would not budge. i sprayed them with some liquid wrench, let them soak for a few minutes and found a piece of pipe about 1.5' long. worked like a charm. good luck!

Heat!!!

F150RI

Just heat the nut up with a propane torch. Cost about 12 bucks at your local WalMart or KMart and it comes in handy! Just heat it up till you heara a little pop and then give it a shot with the ratchet. I'd use a breaker bar and Hellrazors idea of a pipe. More leverage=more torque.

Hope this works.
