Repainting plastic running boards

Hey All,

I did some searching and couldn't come up with any solid answers so here goes my question:

I have the solid plastic running boards on my truck (truck shown below for reference) and after 4 years of use, they aren't exactly black anymore.

I'm at the point where I just want to sand them and respray them black (I'm sick of trying new dressings and I'm not interested in a dye or anything like that). Has anyone done this with any success? I will be doing my wiper cowl this weekend so I'm thinking the same sanding/painting/clearing will work on the running boards. I'm just wondering how foot traffic will effect the paint? My other thought is to hit them with some spray on bed liner or rubberized undercoating before clearing them. I realize this may become a yearly maintenance item (sanding/painting) and I'm fine with that given how easy it is to remove them and such.

Any/all input is much appreciated!

I took mine off, faded problem solved.

But I'd go the rubberized or bed liner route personally. Because of the foot traffic potentially ripping the paint off quicker.
