Painting Fender Flares with Rustoleum Bedliner

Finishing up my running boards today and was probably going to tackle my fender flares next. I've looked at leaving them on and just taping or taking them off. Taking them off seems like a PITA so I'm leaning towards taping.

Are you guys that have done it PTM or just leaving it as is with the bedliner spray? Any clear coats?

Im assuming you hit it with some 60 grit sandpaper, ecthing primer, black primer then add bedliner spray?

Have you ever used that rustoleum bedliner before now? My friends have used it on rims, roof racks, bumpers, etc. We can't make it stick worth a *****. We sand, clean with acetone, put a few coats of primer, and 5-10 coats of the bedliner on and within a few months it starts to come off. I haven't seen a satisfactory result from it yet. Luckily I went with real spray on bedliner. If anybody went through all the time and trouble of putting that rustoleum crap in their actual bed, it would be half gone in a month from what I've seen

I actually PTM'd my flares. I also have a black truck and in did use a clear coat son I could match the truck. Came out pretty good. I haven't messed with the undercoating stuff much but i have a friend with an 87 blazer and he did his rockers and bumpers with the undercoating. Went on great and has held up with no chipping for over a year.

I just did my running boards so I will see in time how it holds up. There are plenty of threads about with people having success for a long period of time with it. I sanded with 60 grit, 2 coats of etching, 2 coats of prime and 2 coats of bedliner. Looks pretty good.

i did my flares awhile back. much easier to tape them off. all i did was wash them with water and i applied probably 3 or 4 coats. it's held up to pressure washing mud off
