Painting my Running Boards

Hi Guys, I want to paint my boards on my 2011 FX2. Has anyone taken them off or apart? Will the rubber/plastic grips and end caps come off so I can paint just the fiberglass/plastic main board? My plan is to Bulldog them and paint them with bedliner paint. Then low gloss black wheel paint and clear coat. Any feed back or advise?

I painted mine with rattle can paint and clearcoat. Have held up well for 2 years but need to be repainted due to some chipping around the plastic step that attaches to the running board. Mine were not chrome or I would take a different approach to painting them. The endcaps come off as do the step pad and I would highly recommend taking off the step pad prior to painting as most of the chipping comes from around the pad.

Having the entire step Line x'd without taking anything apart would work perfectly as well. Just sand them/scuff them and get to painting.

Thanks, I didn't know if I could take them apart or not. Ok, I will get that done as soon as the weather warms up. Pics to follow. Cheers
