Plastii-Dip question

I am eventually going to black out the emblems on my truck. I am going to paint the chrome black and the black lettering to match my truck. I was thinking of plasti-dipping them, since it looks so simple and easy. Can you paint over top of the plasti-dip? Will this cause any issues? Has anyone done that and know if it holds up? I'm also thinking of doing my bumpers for know. eventually i'm gonna get them powder coated to match, but i figure for $20 i can do them black which is better than that ugly chrome.

Any thoughts?

You can paint over plasti dip, but I think they also make a die you can mix in with it so you don't have to paint over it.

I was just looking into this. Looks like they have a "create your own color" option. Thinking about doing my fender flares.

ive heard that painting over the plasti dip changes it somehow with the chemicals and makes it more difficult to peel off later. so i wouldnt do it.

They make it in different colors. Seriously though, painting over it defeats the purpose of plastidip, its really not that hard just to just paint it? I've done many of my interior pieces and small trim with rattle cans; primed, color, and clear and it turned out good. Plastidip is meant for temporary applications but it sounds like you want it to be permanent, if that's the case just paint it and save yourself a headache later.

Yeah i saw the color options you can do. I'm not sure how confident i would be in getting the maroon to match my truck.

As i was coming home i thought about this. Take the emblems off, remove the chrome by chemicals or sanding whatever prep work that would be needed to paint them. Paint the PTM the entire emblem. Then plasti-dip the entire emblem. (assuming it works like the youtube videos) peel off the plasti-dip that is on the original chrome. Leaving the lettering black plasti-dip and the rest PTM. Now paint over all of it with Satin or Flat black. Then peel the plasti-dip off of the letters and clear coat. So the final emblem would be Black outside and PTM lettering.

I'm thinking this process should work fine, and could also be used for the Raise letter Ford symbols in the front and back. You just may need to go over the lettering with a razor to peel away all but the lettering when painting the emblem black.

Let me know your thoughts.
