Level Kit installation / Alignment Question
Level Kit installation / Alignment Question
Im fairly new to the site and I konw from just poking around Im going to get at least one person giving me the standard answer of "do a search" but Im going to ask anyway.
I am considering putting a level kit on the truck but I am concerned abou the possible warranty issues. I did opt for the extended warranty and the service packabe because my truck is brand new and I plan on putting between 25k and 35k on it for my job for the next few years and I want to be sure I am covered. Plus even though tons of people think it is a waste of money it makes it much easier for me to just drop it off for the oil changes and not have to worry about it. With that being said I still dont like the looks of the factory rake and want to make the truck my own.
So here is the question how hard is the kit to install? If I were to put one on then remove and re-install it whenever I went in for service is this a feasible option, I know it depends on if I have the time. But also I have seen where people suggest an alignment after install, is this required becasue I sure dont want to have to do an alignment every time I take the truck in for service this can be expensive.
My second option would be to just go with Bilstein shocks but this is a more expensive option. I did call the dealer today where I plan on getting the service done and did not get a favorable response on their opinion on mods. I got the standard "if the mod causes the failure" its not covered response. The person I talked to could not tell me if a level kit or even new shocks would or could cause a failure that they would not cover but he at least seemed to hint that they did not look favorably on any mod to the truck. Also he could or would not tell me if after market shocks were considered a mod that would not be covered.
I know a lot of people will just say to get a different dealership but for now thats not an option. Has anyone ever ahd a warranty issue not covered due to shocks or level kits?

I do not have much experience but I have been looking into doing the same thing so I have been doing quite a bit of research myself. This is about the best I've found so far.

I think I've decided on a 3" body lift by Performance Accessories and cranking up my existing torsion keys. I'd rather not shell out a bunch of money on replacing ball joints if I can avoid it. I don't need a lot of lift, just enough to clear my new rims.

The level kit is not an easy put on/take off whenever you want kinda thing. After every removal/install it'd require an alignment so it's not a feasible option. Did you ask the dealership if they do the install if they'll still cover it? Final say comes down to whatever mood the person is in when you take it in for service unfortunately so if you think there is even a slight chance of them saying no chances are that'll be the answer you'll get.
I put on 1 1/2 0n my new truck , had dealer do alignment on it . They have been great in past to work with . Had 05 with 2 " and 33 nittos , no problems . I think it is more about relationship with dealer .
In order for an after market part to void a warranty, the dealer must prove that the after market part directly caused the problem.
For instance, if the head lights short out or something not related to suspension happens, the dealer still has to cover it.
However! If you put larger tires on it, and for some reason or another the transmission fails, they may be able to blame it on the larger tires causing stress on the transmission.
Do a quick google search on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 and read up
Good luck!
