Hey MN,

The machine shop just cuts the metal and sandblasts them. I finished the last set myself and put 3M automotive grade double-sided foam tape on the back. I was thinking of having this next set Black-Oxide finished, and then polished and clearcoated.

I will keep you posted when I get them from the shop and when I get some finished and ready to sell.

Howard.

Well here's the deal. my wife and I are ~both~ looking at possible layoffs in the next 6 months. The minimum order for nameplates is about $1000 from the machine shop. $2000 total for a set of 5.4L and a set of 4.6L I went ahead and cancelled my order so I don't end up eating cat food for Christmas dinner.

I know I can make these nameplates, finish them, sell, them, and come out even, eventually ~but~ I just can't spend a couple grand right now when we might have to sell a car or move. Sorry guys.

I am pissed at my employer because they lied right to my face a few months ago... they said I had a permanent job, now they say I am on contract thru maybe December and that's it. Now they hired another guy (permanent) to 'help' me with my job. I think they want me to train their buddy from way back and then can me. My wife's company is laying off 25% of the staff this Thursday. Can I just say that I hate my career and this crappy economy??

Sorry to hear that Howie. When you get around to it, or, even if you don't. That's fine. There are more important things in this life then those badges. Believe it or not, I'm kinda going thru the same thing. My company is a big food dist. service. I drive a tractor-trailer for them. Well for the last year or so we been bought TWICE. Each one that buys us is a bigger company. Not knowing what the hell is going on. Get up every morning to go into work to see if my tractor still parked there. We have assigned tractors, an if I go in and it's gone. I know what's up. So I dig what your screaming. I know it's important, but don't let it get you down dude. I'm sure your good at what you do. They'll be someone else out their to hire ya. Good-luck to both you and you wife. I hope things work out.

Howie,

I am new here as of today, but I think this badge is great. Maybe if there is enough interest here. Those of us who really want them would be willing to pony up $50 or $100 each and send it to you to put in the order. Then after they have been made and sold you can return our investment to us along with the quantity we want to buy and you can keep the profit for your time and energy in this as well as if things employment wise do not go well.

I am very serious about this. I have a high level of caution, but I think this sounds like a sure thing and I'd be willing to come up with the amount I mentioned if others will go in.

Let me know....

Things have been hectic but I think my wife and I made it through the latest round of layoffs alright.

I might reconsider having another batch of the 5.4L nameplates made up after all.

Again, I will keep you guys posted.

Question

Hey Howie, I wonder how much more difficult/expensive it would be to have them run off mini badges. Same proportions as the ones you already made but 3/4 in. tall or so. I think those with aftermarket hoods might use them. The idea just popped into my head and I thought I'd ask.

Howie,

What are you using for undercarriage lights and where did you mount them? Are they just for effects or what is their purpose. I'm curious because the idea sounds interesting as I noticed it in your signature.

Geeky, I like your idea... Small market but good idea. I need to find a cheaper source so I can make a bigger variety of nameplates!!

Thefoyboy, I bought some cheap driving lights on eBay to use as back up lights and they were too big. They would have lasted about 1 week before getting busted up off-road, so I installed them under the cab and tapped into the dome light. Here is a pic:
