3m Front End Protection, thoughts?

I have a painted front bumper on my 2008 with minor road rash, and I am seriously considering having the 3m film applied to prevent any further damage. I assume I would have to touch up the existing damage before having it installed. Does anyone have any experiences with this, how does it work and approximately how much did it cost? Thank you much

I think this is the same stuff they sell for airplanes. I've seen this on the leading edges of wings and even propellers so its definately up to bar

I looked into it. I'd check it out on a vehicle before you do it. I want to say for an entire bumper it was close to $400. IMO it was noticeable and didn't look good even though it was clear. For that price you can get your bumper fixed and painted.

My issue is that the truck is 3 years old, so even if I fix it it will be the same again in a few years. All the limited's (probably all ptm bumpers) seem to have the same issue in that way, if I do this I think it might stop it. My roommate has it on his BMW and it looks nice if it is applied correctly. I figured I would be looking at about $300-400. Does the road rash chipping happen on the chrome bumpers too?

I just had the 3M Scotchguard installed on the upper bumper and 24 inches of the hood/fender this past Friday on my 2010 Screw.

It cost me $445 from a reputable installer (been doing it for 10 years).

3M Scotchguard is the best to use. The Ventureshield (also made by 3m) and some of the other kinds require constant upkeep (treating, etc) to keep them from getting stained.

It turned out great and you cant tell unless you are up close on the vehcile and look for the line.

Did you have any road rash prior to the install? I'm curious if I would have to have it fully repaired before, or if it would just seal if up as it sits.

Well i have a few small rock chips. I just touched them up very carefully not to leave a big blob..and he was able to cover it well.

It depends on how nicked up you are..I had I think 9 chips..some very very small that I probably didnt even need to touch up.

What about removal? Does it cause any damage to the clear coat when removed? Just food for thought

I used this product on my '08 Acura TL from new. As above, the key is to find the right [experienced] installer. It held up well for the 3 years it was on the car when I had it - no yellowing etc. It took some pretty good hits from stones and other projectiles and when the system was removed the paint underneath was prestine. I'd highly recommend this system.

Was thinking about having this installed where the bushwacker pocket flares meet the body of the truck. Even with the rubber gromet it still rubs through peoples paint.

Im thinking about going the 3m way as well. The ptm bumper on my 08 limited keeps getting destroyed. 8 months after I had my truck, some lady hit my front end causing my bumper to. be replaced and repainted. Since then the body shop had to repaint my bumper twice and gonna be a thrid time next month because the paint is falling off.thankfully I don't have to pay for it because the bodyshop warranties their paint. Yes their are some chips. But most of the spots, the paint would bubble then fall off. Its been nothing but a headache since the day it was repaired.

Sounds like the body shop did a crap job at the beginning.

I would say bad prep work is the culprit.
